On the 28th of November 2020 I purchased a Hyundai Santa Fe 2007 model vehicle from Mr Christo Groenewald, owner of Wheelsandmore Automotive, Oudewerfhof, Cape Town. The vehicle was purchased for an amount of R97,500.00 and I paid cash for it. Mr. Groenewald assured me that the vehicle was in “a spotless and pristine condition” and he did not disclose any problems or issues that the vehicle might have to me. On the 26th of April 2021, I experienced a breakdown with the vehicle after the engine was intermittently cutting out due to diesel starvation. My mechanic collected the vehicle at my house to investigate the fault. After a few days of troubleshooting the problem, the mechanic removed the diesel pump and discovered two rags left behind inside the diesel tank. The rags were causing the fuel starvation and it also accelerated the wear on the diesel pump. On the 4th of May 2021 I telephonically contacted Mr. Groenewald to report the issues to him. He told me that he did not offer any warranties or guarantees as the vehicle was sold “voetstoots”. He further told me that it was not his problem as the vehicle had a “full-service history” and that he was not responsible for what was happening. I ended up paying an amount of R7100.00 for the repair costs of the vehicle. On Sunday 23rd May 2021 I experience another breakdown with the vehicle. This time around, the fanbelt snapped. The vehicle failed to start. Upon investigating the fault, it is further found that the cambelt also snapped and that the valves in the engine were bent as result of it. The repairs require a complete engine overhaul at a cost of R18,100.00 . I contact Mr. Groenewald to report the latest issue to him. He responds by sending me a threatening text, saying that he will hand me over to his lawyer. He then blocks my number so that I cannot communicate with him further.
