On Monday (18/10/2021) I hired a cement mixer and 2 wheelbarrows at Sales Hire, Bellville branch, the cement mixer was loaded by 2 of their staff members and one of my colleagues. The cement mixer was pushed with excessive force and rammed into the rear window of my bakkie resulting in a shattered window. I queried about who’s going to cover the cost of repair and the sales hire staff blamed my colleague (to avoid accountabilty) and then highlighted to me signage indicating "load at own risk" . This evasive attempt to not cover repair costs, is not the end of my frustration. This morning (19/10/2021) on return of the hired cement mixer my colleagues chose not to help them offload as they don’t want to be blamed for any potential damages given this companies questionable practices. A younger guy working at the branch insisted that it’s not their duty to offload with an attitude, basically raising his voice at me quiet rudely so, I said he should take it up with his manager and if the manager indicates to us that we should offload it then we will. Then to my utter disgust another elderly guy comes walking out and says to me “jy moetie jou honde betaali” (referring to my colleagues) and then assists his colleague offload the machine and in undertone mumbling things when doing so and then verbaly abused my colleagues further by calling out aloud at them “lui naaiers”. I requested his name and he said that it’s “aapie”. I then went to the store manager, Jamie, to report the incident who went out and called the guy aside telling me he will handle it. All the manager said is the guys we’re excited due to them having a meeting after yesterday’s incident about the broken window and that he spoke to his staff member after today’s incident. Yet the guy that went to call my guys honde and refer to us at lui naaiers was not involved in the incident the day before which still isnt justification for such abrupt behaviour. Dissatisfied with the outcome I then went on to make contact with the area manager (Mr Dion Graham) to escalate the matter. He had no idea of what happened as the store manager Jamie has not reported the incident. He went on to investigate and the elderly guy admitted to referring to my guys as honde and calling them lui naaiers. I was advised that the matter was reported to hr and they will look into the matter. Sales Hire may be good at hiring out tools but hiring of staff.
