The South African 4x4 and Outdoor Expo was recently held at Ysterplaat Air Force Base in Cape Town. The second largest Air Force Museum of the South African Air Force is Ysterplaat. We at Aviation Central chose to fly with Lift Airlines to Cape Town because they were the Expo's official airline partner. The same aircraft, ZA-GAO, was used for the flights to and from Cape Town with the flight numbers being GE125 and GE134 respectively. A bit more about ZS-GAO: Aircraft Manufacture and Model: Airbus A320-200 (MSN 67)Operated by Global Aviation. In July 1989, the aircraft made its first test flight and is powered by two IAE V2500-A1 engines. Our Flight Crew for the outbound bound flight was... Pilots Capt Des Warden, Chief Pilot for Global Airways FO D van Solms Cabin Crew Senior - Dean Morag Justen Glodys The Return Flight Crew for the outbound bound flight was... Capt Dave Oconner FO Barend Flow Cabin Crew Nicole Shenaaz Wilri Shobana Both flights were smooth and problem-free. We love the semi-formal clothing worn by the crew, it made us feel more at home. All procedures and checks were well executed. The flight crew was very helpful and we noticed this with fellow passengers who needed assistance. The overhead bins were overfull due to the flight being full and the crew handled this well by relocating the bigger bags to the lower luggage compartment. The Flight had 12 Premium seats and the rest was economic/standard seating. With Lift your onboard snacks are included at no additional expense as with other local carriers. We at Aviation Central will fly with LIft Airlines again. The only disadvantage we found with Lift is the limited destinations.
Our Bakkie , an Mazda: Bt-50 2.2Tdi H/Power Sle P/U D/C, 2012 Model In September 2020, The engine ceased due to overheating. It was a 9-month struggle to get the warranty to payout. Once they paid out we took the bakkie to gearbox guys for a replacement with a 2nd hand engine. Once all was done, we got the bakkie back. We went back for a few minor issues, but nothing major. Then it happened, within the guarantee period the bakkie engine blew. We were stressed big time as we were on a long road trip! Danie from Gearbox Guys arranged for a recovery vehicle and confirmed that we were okay. The bakkie was sent to the engine supplier for investigation as to the cause that made the engine blow. There was some finger-pointing between them, Gearbox guys, and the Engine supplier. It looked like we were going to wait for a battle between the engine supplier and Gearbox Guys that fitted the engine. However, Danie and Arina from Gearbox guys took full responsibility to repair the Bakkie at their own cost. The bakkie was sent to the engine supplier for investigation as to the cause. They even replaced our Seat covers and replaced lost components that were never returned from the engine supplier like Battery, talk converter, Stater, and many more. Big Shout out to Gearbox guys for keeping to their warrantee and commitments, I know this cost them thousands of Rands and this is during these difficult times when all businesses are suffering. I truly hope they can recover these costs encountered by this. We can recommend Gearbox Guys for all your automotive repairs, they are in Kilner Park, Pretoria. Not only do they deliver top-quality work, but they do keep to their promises and commitments with Guarantees. Regards Flippie and Lettie van Emmenis
