What a negative experience. 8 months later and I am sitting with an incomplete patio. The company was paid to do the work instead the work was left incomplete and there is no resolution for them to finish the work or give me a refund. All attempts to resolve this matter have been futile. I would not recommend this business.
What a horrible experience. 8 months later and I am sitting with an incomplete patio. Owner ran away with my money and refuses to finish the job or refund me!!!!
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND LANDSCAPING CAPE TOWN CC I was recommended this company by Epic Pools when installing my pool last year. I contacted Matthew Gregan last year October for landscaping. I was given a quote of R60 000.00 to complete the job. The agreement was to pay 3 portions of R20 000,00 each. I paid a deposit of R20 000,00 in November and was promised the job would be completed before Christmas. On January 23rd, after running after Matthew for a few weeks I finally got confirmation saying he would start the job in that week. On the 24th I was told he was picking up staff and they would arrive at 08h30. At 09h25 I enquired where they were. On the 25th Matthew said his guys were outside to start the job. From this point I knew there were going to be a lot of excuses. Nevertheless, his workers started working, they leveled the sand and cemented the area. In the process of doing so, my grass was destroyed which resulted in us looking at paving options. Matthew then requested another payment of R20 000,00 which would be to start the tiling. Which was paid, from there I was inundated with various excuses as to why he has not come back to site, which included: Not having funds, could not find a reliable tiler and he was busy with other projects so had no time to complete the job. After numerous messages to Matthew, asking him why he had not returned to site, he responded by saying I should be understanding to his circumstance and agreed upon compensation for the delay. Which included: replace my wier cover and pave the front area where his workers had damaged my grass at NO cost using the existing bricks and any additional I would require. He then asked me to agree to this and put it on an email and send it to him. To which I did. Dated 1 March 2022. To this day 28 July 2022, I have not received a response to my email. I then followed up with him and asked him to respond to my email, he advised that he did not receive it and asked that I resend. Which I did, after resending numerous times I was told he is having pc issues (15 March 2022) and that he had not been in the office (16 March 2022) I have been contacting Matthew non-stop via Whatsapp and email, even tried calling him numerous times but no response. I then resorted to contacting Jan from Epic Pools about the matter as they do a lot of work together. I was then told that he had never had any issues or complaints regarding Matthew’s work. Matthew then told Jan that I was a problem client. Jan then came to site and advised me that the work that the workers had completed was around R15 000,00 – R20 000,00. And advised that I send another email to Matthew and cc him in. Which I did, dated 12 April 2022. Matthew then responded on 13 April 2022, saying if my above request (my previous email stipulating that I wanted the previous job done that was quoted on) was possible he would have done it long ago. He then said the previous email I sent was not responded to because my request was “ridiculous, unrealistic and unethical”. Even though he agreed to this on Whatsapp and asked me to email him this. I was then told I am threatening them with social media exposure for items that were never included within the quotation, due to “compensation, which was caused by situations completely out of my control” he then mentions that he agrees that he has delayed the completion of the project and that he has put 20 other jobs ahead of mine in the que, but he clearly states that its purely due to my unrealistic expectations. As well as my drafting of a mail that made it seem that there was very little chance of final payment anyway. He then states in closing, to leave Jan from Epic Pools out if the complaint, as he has installed many pools for him and has handed another over two referrals for the coming week. He then said Jan is able to meet with me tomorrow as he is in the area, but he will not. He also said that we will never meet an agreement. He then proposed to send his staff to do final clean up and collect tools and negotiate a rand value to put this to bed. He further says that he is happy to recommend a tiler to finish the job for me. After responding to his email, I had stated that he needs to complete the job at hand or give me back my additional R20 000,00 I paid on 1 February 2022. On 20 April, I had still not received a response to my email – to which I sent a follow up email requesting completion of the job and that I would only: a) be willing to pay an additional R5 000,00 to complete the job or b) he buys the tiles, drops them off and reimburses me R8 000,00 from the R20 000,00 or c) he reimburses me the R20 000,00 and we walk away from the matter. On 22nd April, Jan responded that he would no longer be involved. On 23rd April, Matthew responded by saying Jan should not be involved and that he offered me a discount on the original quotation and that going forward I would be liable for a FURTHER R20 000,00 and that none of the other options are fair and that I am unwilling to agree to either. To which I responded that I was tired of all of the back and fourth and that I just want the job to be completed. And that I will pay any other monies that are due after. I asked if his workers could start on Monday. To this day 28 July, I have not received a single response. I still have all his equipment, tools, materials and workers clothing on site and my place looks horrendous!! I am wanting my R20 000,00 back as the job was not completed. I have absolutely no faith that the job could be completed by Landscaping Cape Town CC.
