Review: I engaged Dups Stylish Designs Pty Ltd, under owner Andy, to install a fireplace at my home. I paid the agreed amount in full, but the fireplace was never installed. Despite repeated attempts to contact the company, the installation did not happen and communication has been poor. I have since opened a case of *****. This has been a frustrating experience, and I urge others to not use Andy's services as he is a *****ster.
I am a pensioner who has faithfully paid my monthly premiums to Nedbank Insurance for over 25 years, trusting that I would be protected in my time of need. Unfortunately, that trust has now been shattered. Following the severe and unprecedented rainfall in Durban, my property suffered significant damage — including a devastating mudslide that collapsed my retaining wall and caused wide structural cracks in my driveway. I submitted a claim expecting the support I have paid for over decades. To my dismay, Nedbank has rejected the claim, citing vague technicalities such as: "No proper storm water management on the slabbed decking" "The retaining wall is not covered unless built to SANS standards" These reasons are deeply disappointing and feel like an excuse to deny a legitimate claim rather than provide meaningful assistance. Where was this requirement of SANS standards clearly communicated to me when I signed the policy decades ago? How is the average policyholder — let alone a pensioner — expected to independently verify SANS compliance of structures-built years ago? The reference to a lack of stormwater management is subjective and shifts blame onto the homeowner for an act of nature — during a period when authorities themselves have described the rainfall as “extreme and exceptional.” I find this rejection not only unfair but inhumane, especially given my long-term loyalty and consistent payments over more than two decades. I am appealing to Nedbank Insurance to do the right thing and reassess this claim in light of the exceptional circumstances and the long-standing client relationship. If not resolved, I will be left with no choice but to escalate this through the Ombudsman for Short-Term Insurance (OSTI) and share my experience across consumer platforms. Loyalty should go both ways. Sincerely, D Naidoo 74 year old pensioner
