Total chaos at the restaurant with no oversight from manager & staff
As a follow up to my review of Street Food Trucks (Pty) Ltd dated 03 November 2023 below : 11th March 2024 our new grinder that was included with the coffee trailer purchased in October 2023 was not working. I contacted SFT via whatsap the morning of the 12th March informing them of this and as the grinder would still be under guarantee (5 months old) I requested the details of the supplier or alternatively the invoice details. I received the details of Windtrade with a mobile number from SFT. Windtrade confirmed that they were not the suppliers of that make of grinder and I went back to SFT informing them of the response. I then received notification that Bruno coffee were the suppliers but with no contact details. Despite numerous follow up messages I am yet to receive the details of the supplier or purchase information from SFT. SFT advertise in their brochure that the coffee trailer & equipment are covered with a year guarantee but fail to respond to any requests for information - therefore their "guarantee" means absolutely nothing ! If you attend to repairing the equipment yourself SFT refuse to refund you for the said repairs as their policy is " Nobody except SFT are allowed to attend to any repairs or maintenance on the coffee trailer" but yet don't attend to any requests for repairs. BEWARE of STREET FOOD TRUCKS (PTY) LTD !!
On the 14th April 2023 I contacted Chris Daniels owner of SFT for info regarding their coffee trailers and received their brochure & pricing. On the 25th May an invoice was received which indicated delivery was within 12 weeks from date of payment. On the 29th May i received an email from SFT requesting the deposit " we are ordering our coffee machines for the next cycle - that comes from Italy & requires exact planning for logistics" End June 2023 Chris Daniels confirmed that the trailer would be complete around Middle July. 12 July 2023 Janet of SFT confirming they were finalising the registration of the trailer & that the remainder payment was now due. Trailer would be completed for delivery on the 10th August 2023. On the 8th August 2023 I followed up regarding progress at which time Chris Daniels confirmed they were behind as a result of load shedding but delivery would be 17 August. - The wait would be worth it - he said. On the 17th August I was told the trailer would be ready at 12h00 on Wednesday 23rd August. 23 August arrived and I followed up again only to receive the following whatsap - "Morning, we have a glitch with the coffee machine" There will be a delay as soon as we have more details" i was informed that the gas system was not consistent & that they had to get a new coffee machine from Italy. 29 August - 6 September : follow up via whatsap and calls to SFT but NO RESPONSE 07 September - follow up message only to be informed that the coffee machine is being held up at customs but will be released on Monday 11 September. 12 September - no response to my messages or calls 21 September - I am informed by Chris Daniels that he met with customs officials for four hours & that they eventually agreed to fast track the release of the coffee machine. 05 October 2023 - Message from SFT "Morning, almost done - some minor alterations with the fitment of the coffee machine" 06 October 2023 - " Message from SFT "We are waiting for a part being couried from Gauteng then we will be done" 9th October - I drove from Knysna to Cape Town to SFT factory to investigate the situation. Much to my shock & horror I arrived to find a half built coffee trailer still covered in newspaper for spraying. The interior woodwork was half done - there was no way a coffee machine was ever fitted to the half built structure. I requested to see the coffee machine that had twice now come from Italy. The SFT worker took me upstairs to show me a 2nd hand machine which was in pieces. He confirmed that this was definitely the machine that was to be fitted to my coffee trailer. I immediately called Chris Daniels to inform him that i was at his factory and my total disgust and disappointment in the situation. He arrived at the premises completely caught off guard by my arrival. When I confronted him he became aggressive & told me I didn't know what I was talking about and who was I to question his experience in the industry. After much unpleasant ranting Chris Daniels informed me that I could collect the trailer on Wednesday at 14h00. I decided to remain in CT so that I could return to the factory on Tuesday to inspect the progress as I would unfortunately not trust anything that came from SFT. On Tuesday morning I was informed that I was not allowed on the premises & that I should stick to the arrangement of collecting the trailer on the Wednesday. Secondly, contrary to numerous undertaking that SFT would deliver the trailer to Knysna stated that this was never the agreement and provided me with quotes for transporting to Knysna. At 14h00 on Wednesday 11 October the courier company & I arrived at SFT premises. Chris Daniels was no where to be seen - only his workers who seems had to take photos / videos of us collecting the trailer. In transit to Knysna the complete tow-hitch broke off outside Worcester as a result of poor welding & sub-standard bolts & metal brackets. Chris Daniels was immediately notified but received no response from him. When presented with the invoice for repairs, Chris confirmed that he would not pay for the repairs as only SFT may repair the said trailers and I had utilised a 3rd party. The courier confirmed that had a normal passenger vehicle being towing the trailer at the time of the incident it could have resulted in a serious accident and damage to both vehicle & trailer. Upon arrival in Knysna, I found that the coffee machine was in fact purchased by SFT from Gourmet Coffee Roasters in Kuils River Cape Town and NOT from Italy. It was also a semi-automatic machine despite being invoiced for an automatic machine - R6 129.00 cheaper! Upon further investigation, it was confirmed by the supplier that the semi-automatic machine was sold already fitted with a gas kit despite also being charged an additional R11 270 for a gas kit. SFT's response was that the semi-automatic was installed as a result of stock shortages of automatic machines - so what happened to the 2 machines from Italy as well as the customs delays? The finishes of the coffee trailer were definitely not as expected nor as advertised - the brochure also stated many extras to be included namely stainless steel counters, menu boards, slide out service table etc etc - which were never received. When enquiring as to this with SFT the excuse was that the incorrect brochure was sent to me & the ones photographed in the brochure had many extras as requested by the purchasers - total false advertising! I have requested the refund of the monies that I have been overcharged with but have received no response from SFT. Do not purchase anything from SFT as they cannot be trusted ! Street Food Trucks (Pty) Ltd should not be allowed to operate!
