On 6 November our house was struck by lightning. We lost two TV's, a wine cooler and the printer would not turn on. On 9 Nov we handed the printer in at the Walmer Park store in PE where it was bought to be assessed and if possible repaired. After two weeks we started inquiring re: the status. We were told they were waiting for parts. We were given the same feedback everytime we called. After 4 weeks had passed, I insisted on speaking to the store manager, I got oassed from one person to another but Ernest, the manager, were either not in the store, or is "just out at the moment" or "is busy with a client". Promises of being called back never materialised. I then went to the store in person and insisted on speaking to Ernest, who again was "on the phone with a customer in his office", I waited for half an hour and he then emerged. He claimed not to be informed of the situation but would call me on the Monday. He did not. I called him on the Tuesday and I was told they are still waiting for the parts. I explained again that I run an office from home and we have now waited for an unacceptable period of time and that we expected the situation to be remedied within 48 hours. After another frustrating week of calls not being returned we went to the store in person again. Ernest said that he had received permission from Canon to refund us. Only one slight problem the exact same printer now costs R1000 more three months later and we were definitely not going to purchase it from them. We informed them we are going to purchase a printer somewhere else, and if and when the parts finally arrive and the printer is fixed, we will use the printer on one of our business sites. We have indeed purchased the same printer from Makro and paid R300 less than we would have. Today I was called not by Ernest, but one of the employees and informed the technicians had detected the use of the "wrong" ink and our claim has been rejected. The ink cartridges were in the printer from the word go. Why would there be need to wait for parts? Secondly, the printer could not switch on after the house was struck by lightning. Thirdly, we have the exact same make and model printer on another business site that have functioned perfectly for 6 years using the same ink, but a 3 month old printer will not switch on after a lightning strike because the technician, have after 5 weeks "detected" the use of the wrong ink? I will never purchase any product from them again. This is the worst customer care I have ever experienced. Date of experience: December 13, 2023
