********* behaviour and promises not met
After encountering limp mode issues with a vehicle purchased from Weelee on the 4th March and everyone at Weelee standing back and not honouring to cover any of the costs to remedy the issue I sent the below message to the CEO of Weelee on the 7th April in the hope that I would be able to get some assistance and that Weelee would do the right thing. “Dear Errol, firstly let me apologise for contacting you on a Sunday but I don't know which way to turn prior to jumping on the Google review, Hello Peter and Vehicle Ombudsman route. My name is Paul Veenendaal and I purchased a 2012 Hyundai IX35 from Weelee.co.za on the 4th March from your salesman called Anthony. On the 6th my daughter went to fetch her son from preschool and while driving she experienced the vehicle going into limp mode where the rev counter stops registering and one cannot accelerate. She stopped and started the car and it was normal. Unfortunately, she only told me this on the and 7th when I too experienced the limp mode issue and advised her to be careful next time she rode the vehicle. As it was late on Friday 7th, I decided to wait till Monday 11th to contact Anthony. However the limp mode problem started occurring far too many times since then and I was concerned about incurring any additional damage. I therefore sent a message to the Anthony informing him of such and he advised I bring the vehicle into the workshop. However, we both agreed that due me only having one vehicle with my wife’s vehicle in for repairs and the long weekend coming up I should only take the vehicle in on Tuesday 2nd April. I delivered the vehicle on the 2nd April where Anthony introduced me to Trent the vehicle technician. I showed Trent the circumstances I experienced when the vehicle goes into limp mode and we agreed that the vehicle stay overnight because the limp mode check has to be done when the vehicle is cold. On the afternoon of Wednesday 3rd I called and the Trent advised the timing chain was stretched and needed to be replaced. He added that they had ordered and obtained the parts and were just waiting for the warranty to approve the charges to go ahead. I then advised Trent that the Warranty that I had purchased would not cover this because the contract stipulated no previous defect prior to signing would be covered. It was already late in the afternoon and Trent advised that the vehicle had to stay overnight again. On Thursday afternoon I again called and Trent advised the warranty would not cover the charges and added that he had liaised with the Weelee After Sales Manager, Jonathan who advised that Weelee would also not cover the costs. I asked how this could be because not only had I informed Weelee (Anthony) of the fault within 7 days. Trent just repeated that Weelee would not pay. I tried a number of times to call and WhatsApp Jonathan but he only called much later on Thursday and he just said Weelee would not cover the costs. As Weelee had my vehicle and I was desperate having no vehicle at home I asked Trent to send me the charges for the repairs. He did so and this is when I ascertained that Trent does not work for Weelee but instead for Centurion Diesel and Petrol Centre. I then managed to pay the R7,404.85 and requested that the vehicle be ready by the weekend as I am stuck at home. Unfortunately to add insult to injury on Friday Trent sent me a WhatsApp advising that there is a small sweat on water pump and I needed to eft an additional R1500. I paid this amount and fetched the vehicle around 6pm on Friday from Jonathan who was still not too perturbed when I advised that, as a pensioner I had to borrow the money to pay for this and was hoping that Weelee would pay even a portion of the costs as this is not right. To add, on Saturday when I drove out of my house and was approximately 1.5 km down the road the vehicle went into limp mode again. I called the salesman Anthony who said he would call the after sales manager Jonathan to call me. To date I have not received a call back. I really hope you can assist in this matter please. Not only has this impacted me financially as a pensioner but Weelee should do the right thing. R8,904.85 may not be a large amount for Weelee but for a pensioner in these dire times is represents food on the table and some fuel in the vehicle. Hoping for your positive feedback please.” In all fairness the CEO did respond on the same day by stating “Good morning Sir, please let me check this with my team tomorrow. I will get back to you” Unfortunately Monday came and by Monday late afternoon I polled again with the CEO asking if he had met with his team and if he had any feedback. No reply received since so I assume Weelee and their CEO do not believe in doing the right thing nor keeping their promises of getting back to me. I then took the vehicle to a specialist diagnostic entity and was advised that it is seldom that a timing chain can cause intermitted limp mode issues as it would instead be a constant error. This plus the fact that I am still experiencing the limp mode issue means that I have been ****med out of R8,904.85 that was not necessary. I must add that I was forced to pay this because Weelee sent my vehicle to Centurion Diesel and Petrol, a third party who rightfully would not release the vehicle until paid in full and Weelee were not honouring this – I felt “trapped” in the situation. I then decided to post this on Hellopeter on the 9th April together with all the history behind the events. After my post on Hellopeter a gentlemen by the name of Nick from Weelee called me asking for the details of what happened. I explained all that had occurred and Nick requested that I submit all the invoices and proof of payments to him and he would arrange a refund. On the 10th April I sent copies of the invoicing and written proof of the request for the R1500 for the water pump together with proof of payments for both to Nick and he advised “Thank you sir. Will have it refunded”. On the 11th April I asked Nick for a status update and also asked whether Weelee needs my bank account details in order to process the refund and Nick advised yes and if I could also send a copy of my ID. Both were sent through the same day. At this point I started having my doubts about the commitment from Nick. I need to add that Nick also requested I delete my Hellopeter post as well as any other online media posts. At first I was hesitant because this would break recorded chain of events but ultimately I deleted all in the hope I would receive the refund. Big mistake indeed – I should have stated it would be better for them to refund me and I would provide an update stating they have refunded me as a reply to my Hellopeter post. Anyway, despite Nick promising on behalf of Weele that they would refund me this too appears to have been a total ruse. I have been asking almost daily for updates from Nick as the funds have not been received. Initially it was that the process would take 5 to 7 days. Then Nick said he cannot understand why because it was put forward for approval and processing. On the 20th April Nick stated “Strange that is hasn't reflected was submitted and approved. Will follow up first thing on Monday morning for you” – nothing heard on Monday. On the 21st Nick advised “My sincere apologies, I can't understand why it hasn't reflected, I know I did say I would call this morning and did not honor that call... I was off today unexpectedly with a fever with something I caught over the weekend.” Despite this nothing was heard on Tue or Wednesday irrespective of my messages to Nick. On Thursday 2th April I advised nick that I would give it till midday before embarking on the social media front if nothing received to which Nick responded with “Good morning Paul... I am with my accounts department now and not leaving till something has happened.... will relay feedback shortly” Low and behold nothing has been received nor heard from Nick. Well, I now have no recurse other than to repost my grievance in the hope that I can prevent anyone else falling under the wheel of Weelee and incurring the same ********* behaviour. In closing I wish to warn anyone wishing to purchase a vehicle from Weelee, be careful because they do not honour payment for repairs brought to their attending within the 7 day period. Instead I would ensure that you get the Dekra report and have an alternate technical go through the vehicle with a fine tooth comb. If any faults get Weelee to sign off on payment for such before purchasing the vehicle. I am not alone in have such a poor interaction with Weelee. Since I have been voicing my dissatisfaction, I have been advised by many other people who have fallen prey to their ********* behaviour which appears to also include promises made that they would refund expenses just to keep customers from posting on Hellopeter.
