I bought a second hand car at autohaus Angel Milnerton in Dec 23. Their service seemed excellent. On 30 Jan 23 we heard a rattling in the car and the aircon started blowing hot, we advised them and they told us to bring it back. 3 engine mountings were loose and the aircon pipe was broken. I wondered how the car had been roadworthied if the engine mountings were loose. We fetched our car they could not deliver to our area, they said it was a grey area. 27 Feb, the car wouldn't start we contacted them and the salesperson tried to figure out what it was but really couldn't we called in a mechanic did a battery test and they found only 1 cell wasn't dry. We contacted them about the replacement of the battery. Hey saidthis would be for pur own cost R1900. As this is wear and tear and we had passed 1 month guarantee period. I took this issues up with the manager who politely told me I didn't buy a new car. At the end of March again a noise in the engine. I let them know and their attitude is that I just need to bring the car in and they will do an assessment and claim from my cover. At this point I'm starting to feel like they just doing patch jobs and selling cars with issues. So I send it to a third party so I can know for sure what's happening , on return a list is provided from the engineers confirming the car had been in an accident which we were never told about, the car though it has a full service history was not serviced some of the time, just the oil had been changed. The pistons are broken off and debris are in the oil pump, the Campbell oil pump belt needs replacing, the thermostat housing gasket is broken causing water leakage, the clutch kit is worn and the clutch release bearing needs replacing. This a total cost of R50k. So I send them an email with the findings. It was clear from the start that they were not going to accept any responsibility nor foot the bill for damage or even admit that they sold a car without being transparent about the issues. The manager just kept re iterating that they told me to bring the car to them and the could keep the cost low for me and claim via my policy and that I've lost my right per the consumer act.
