I recently held an event at Britannia's Coliseum Conference Building and, regrettably, must report a less than satisfactory experience. We arranged for a per person fee of R230, expecting it to cover ample food and good service. Unfortunately, the portions served were unacceptably small, leading to complaints from many guests about the inadequacy of the meal – an embarrassing situation for any host. The problems did not end there. The general manager's demeanor and service approach significantly marred our experience. Guests were still eating when their tables were abruptly cleared, and despite having booked the venue for the entire evening, our party was hurried out prematurely at 9 PM. This was both unprofessional and disrespectful, disrupting the flow of our event. Additionally, our specific instructions for the bar tab were overlooked. We had explicitly requested that it cover only alcoholic beverages; however, charges for non-alcoholic drinks like cool drinks and juices were improperly added, thus inflating our expenses unnecessarily. Compounding the issue, food and drinks that were supposedly included in our package were whisked away before everyone had their fill. When we sought to address this, we were bluntly informed that there was no food left, despite the apparent rationing of portions earlier in the evening. The saving grace of the evening was Elisha, a staff member whose efforts to assist did not go unnoticed. However, the general manager's poor management overshadowed her commendable service. In total, the event cost us over R38,000 – a substantial amount that did not reflect the value received. It's distressing to invest in an event meant to be memorable and joyous only to have it marred by such issues. I cannot recommend Britannia's Coliseum Conference Building for events, especially when customer service and satisfaction are paramount. The handling of our event by the management was not only disappointing but showed a disregard for the basic principles of hospitality.
