I recently held an event at Britannia's Coliseum Conference Building and, regrettably, must report a less than satisfactory experience. We arranged for a per person fee of R230, expecting it to cover ample food and good service. Unfortunately, the portions served were unacceptably small, leading to complaints from many guests about the inadequacy of the meal – an embarrassing situation for any host. The problems did not end there. The general manager's demeanor and service approach significantly marred our experience. Guests were still eating when their tables were abruptly cleared, and despite having booked the venue for the entire evening, our party was hurried out prematurely at 9 PM. This was both unprofessional and disrespectful, disrupting the flow of our event. Additionally, our specific instructions for the bar tab were overlooked. We had explicitly requested that it cover only alcoholic beverages; however, charges for non-alcoholic drinks like cool drinks and juices were improperly added, thus inflating our expenses unnecessarily. Compounding the issue, food and drinks that were supposedly included in our package were whisked away before everyone had their fill. When we sought to address this, we were bluntly informed that there was no food left, despite the apparent rationing of portions earlier in the evening. The saving grace of the evening was Elisha, a staff member whose efforts to assist did not go unnoticed. However, the general manager's poor management overshadowed her commendable service. In total, the event cost us over R38,000 – a substantial amount that did not reflect the value received. It's distressing to invest in an event meant to be memorable and joyous only to have it marred by such issues. I cannot recommend Britannia's Coliseum Conference Building for events, especially when customer service and satisfaction are paramount. The handling of our event by the management was not only disappointing but showed a disregard for the basic principles of hospitality.

Britannia Airport Hotel Manchester. I was stuck in the small antiquated lift after 11pm with 2 inebriated chaps for 45 min. It jolted twice and seemed to fall. There was no way of alerting hotel reception and after the initial response from the lift call button letting us know they would call a technician, we heard nothing. Eventually one of the chaps prised open the inner lift doors to see we were between floors 4 and 5. In a panicked desperation some 30 min later, the two chaps managed to prise open the outer doors of the 4th floor and squeeze through a small area to jump down 3m to get out. I am 61 years old. This absolutely traumatised me. Shaking and crying I walked down to reception to tell them of the ordeal and their response, “WE OWN THE HOTEL, NOT THE LIFTS.” Reception was not the least bit interested. My room was just outside the lift area on the 6th floor and I could hear the grinding of the lift shaft all night. No technician arrived until the early hours of the morning. I had heart palpitations all night and a sore body on my long haul flight to SA. On the rooms, very basic. No air conditioning. TV remote didn’t work. Plug didn’t fit in the bathtub. Cold water tap in sink didn’t work.

On the 3rd of December we arrived at Britania hotel at approximately 1:30pm to have lunch for our anniversary . We walked to the bar area and noticed that it was a bit full. We then seated ourselves on the outside benches, hoping to be noticed by a waitress. 5min later without even receiving a menu, a waitress approach us and asked if we know what we want to order, I asked hre how.. We don't even have a menu. Still no menu in sight we asked another staff member if we could be moved into the main restaurant, she acknowledged that there was space. Thinking she would show us our table, we had to find a table for ourselves.... We seated ourselves and I had to ask a waitress for a menu. One menu was given to my wife and I to share of which that menu didn't even have a drinks page in it. After 10 minutes trying to get a waitress attention, I asked for a menu that has a drinks list. She went and returned, threw a menu rudely on the table and walked away. To my surprise I opened the menu and it was a file with empty sleeves in it... At this time I was fuming with anger... I called the same waitress and opened the file and asked her what she expected me to order from an empty folder.. She left to fetch another menu, I waited another 10min for her and I just couldn't go on... We then woke up and left the restaurant, apon leaving thee was a female at the reception door who asked why we are leaving, I explained to her that we have been sitting there for 30min without a menu... On the 04th I called the hotel to lay a complaint. I spoke to a female who addressed herself as part of management, she then said she remembered me from the 3rd as I spoke to her when I was leaving ... Explained my situation to her, she didn't even have the decency to apologize, instead her response was that she would investigate the matter and get back to me, and she cut the call.... I would wonder how she would get back to me as she didn't even bother to take down any details of mines.

We had a stay over at the Britannia and it was amazing. It's clean, it's affordable and it's safe. The food was delicious too! Mandy at Reception was welcoming and sweet. I'll be visiting there soon again

On Sunday (4 March 2018) my boyfriend, two friends and I decided to go for lunch and try out Capiscium Restaurant at the Britannia Hotel in Umgeni Road. My boyfriend and his friend chose to go to Capiscium because they wanted to have their chops chutney as it was well recommended to them. The service was less than poor as we waited for almost 45 minutes for our cool drinks to be served, however the table of 8 next to us (who arrived about 10 minutes later than us)received their orders within 10 minutes of ordering them ( from the same waitress as we had). When the food finally arrived ( about an hour later, well after the table of 8 finished their dessert) my boyfriend looked at the chops chutney and stated that it's under cooked and there was a water base at the top of the chutney (questionable if it was freshly made or reheated or just under cooked). My boyfriend tried a chop, and gave me a chop to taste. The chutney was extremely sour and had no flavor in it whatsoever. We called our waitress and told her to take it away because we refuse to pay for it because it tasted awful. When the bill arrived the chops chutney was charged to the bill so my boyfriend told them that he refuses to pay for it because he barley ate any of it and it really was not upto any restaurant standard. There was a long back and forth where the hostess came to our table and told us that she would see what they could do. 15 minutes later we received a bill and were charged R70 (half the price of the chops chutney) and their reasoning was because they serve 6 chops per serving and they will charge for the two chops which were eaten. We took the problem up with the manager who told us :1) No body else complained about the chops and that's the way they make it there and 2.) if we don't pay then our waitress would have to pay the R70. After arguing with the manager for 15 minutes we backed down, paid and left and will never return again.

we went to the Britannia Restaurant on the 09/09/17 as my JHB family was craving a lovely Durban mutton bunny.worst choice ever to go to this place.so we enter the place and all the tables have reserved signs.so this guy comes and seats us and say they are very busy hence the reserved signs.so he doesn't give us a break to choose what exactly we want and comes back and forth rushing to take our order and says "we wont be disappointed with our order".when the meal comes the bunnys have majority bones and the base is soaked in oil... definitely not a good experience.i don't understand what is the hype about this place.
