I have been treated very badly at an MTN outlet. Trading as an MTN outlet at Vincent Park Mall in East London, Maverick Telecommunications sold me a new cellphone contract upgrade. I have used Huawei phones for many years now and, when I was offered Huawei devices as part of my wife and my upgrade, I was interested. However, because I knew that there had been software issues between Huawei and Google, I purposely asked whether this phone was now compatible. I was told that there was no problem at all. I asked the same question again and was assured again that there was no problem. Based on this information, I signed up for the new contract and received the devices. Unfortunately, it became clear within a day that it is not compatible. Each app has to be loaded and updated by means of workaround app called Gbox and the process is by no means seamless. My wife refused to use the phone because of the complications. One app, which is very useful to me, does not function as well and the Huawei technician contacted the company to query it. I was told that they're working on it. It still does not work. Within two days, I took the phones back but was advised that they would not be happy to cancel the deal. I left to try again but took them back seven days after the day I had signed up for the contract. The branch manager sent the device in for "repairs" despite my insisting that the contract/devices be replaced instead. I have waited for more than a month since signing up, have had two months' fees deducted from my bank account and have enjoyed no benefits from the contract yet. Unfortunately for me, I had signed where I was instructed to. I have subsequently been shown that I had inadvertently signed an acknowledgement that I was aware that the device was not compatible with Android. So, was assured that the device was compatible when, in fact, the salesman knew that it was not because it was in the contract. I have been in contact with the head office of the company and, despite my attempts to resolve this matter amicably, I was told that I could not be helped. I was completely misinformed, returned the devices after two days and then again six days later. I cannot recommend MTN or this company although I have been an MTN customer for approximately 30 years now.
