I recently rented a vehicle from Ark Car Rentals and had a deeply frustrating experience that raises serious questions about their inspection and billing practices. When I returned the car, the inspector pointed out what they claimed was a “scratch” under the bumper. I examined it on the spot and clearly stated that I did not agree it was caused by us. The mark looked like normal road debris from driving in rainy conditions, not damage. The car had been driven in heavy rain shortly before return, so the underside was wet and dirty — hardly a reliable condition for declaring new scratches with cer*****y. Despite my immediate dispute, Ark later emailed me an invoice for the alleged damage. What makes this worse is that the vehicle was taken away, cleaned, and then “buffed and polished” after I had already disagreed with the claim. By the time photos were sent to me, the area had already been worked on, meaning the evidence was no longer in its original state and impossible to verify independently. The photos provided to justify the charge do not show clear, undeniable damage prior to their cleaning and handling. Yet they are insisting on keeping my deposit and billing me further. After this happened, I looked up Ark on Hellopeter and found multiple other customers describing issues with deposits not being returned and similar claims about minor marks under the vehicle. Seeing my experience line up with so many others is extremely concerning. I strongly caution anyone considering renting from Ark Car Rentals. My experience felt unfair, the claim was not proven, and the entire process left me with the impression that disputed “damage” is treated as a billing opportunity rather than an honest assessment.
