Yet another bad review. Perhaps these people should just close their doors. They recently worked on my gearbox. Then a week later, told me I could collect the vehicle. At no point did they tell me that they refuse to use the credit card machine displayed prominently on their reception counter. Only after I had Ubered there with my credit card did they tell me that payment had to be made via EFT. They refused to listen to reason, or to admit that their refusal to use the credit card machine on their counter was their problem, not the customer's. I pleaded with the receptionist to call her manager so the matter could be resolved amicably. She refused. I asked her to call the police, so they could decide the legalities of the situation. She refused. Eventually, after standing in their reception area for at least 15 minutes, with the receptionist completely ignoring me for most of them while she mumbled to one of her colleagues, I told her that if she didn't come up with a solution - or call her manager - within the next couple of minutes, I would be leaving with the car and settling the bill via EFT as soon as funds had been transferred into my account. (I had previously moved all spare cash into my credit card, to enable me to settle the bill via credit card) Still nothing happened. So I left, calmly, and drove my car home. Then settled the account, in full, via 2 EFT payments. Gearbox Doctor will respond here and say I took the vehicle by force. They will say I "ran away." Nothing could be further from the truth. Their own camera footage shows me calmly walking to my car, then driving slowly away. They will also say I nearly "knocked" their mechanic. The same camera footage shows the mechanic and the receptionist hitting and kicking my car, trying to gain access so they could assault me. Despite this unacceptable assault, the footage shows me driving away calmly, not responding to their unexpected violence. At one point the mechanic stepped in front of my car, but he quickly stepped away again. At no point was I anywhere near him. They will also say, again and again, that their receptionist told me the card machine is not working. Yes, she did tell me. As I stepped out of the Uber to collect my car. Not when I first dropped off the car. Not when I received the quote. And not when she told me the car was ready to be collected. At no point was I given enough advance notice to transfer enough cash to settle the large bill via EFT on the spot. Gearbox Doctor also claim to be RMI members, on the signs at their premises and on their business cards and flyers. I contacted the RMI to verify this. The RMI confirmed that they have not, and have never been, members of the RMI. A clear indication of their level of honesty.
