Floor Mop Strand Found in Food I’m incredibly disappointed with my recent experience at House of Ribs. We visited for my niece’s birthday because it was the only restaurant in the area offering a weekday lunch buffet. Although Little Nero’s next door has a better buffet, they only serve it at dinner, so we gave this place a try. While eating my first and only plate, I bit into what felt like cotton. To my absolute horror, it was a long strand of dirty mop fiber—clearly from a used mop head, the kind that touches floors. I felt nauseous immediately. I showed it to our waiter, Memory, who was visibly shocked and immediately informed the manager. We saw him examine the plate from a distance, but 10–15 minutes went by with no word from him. Eventually, our waiter came back to check if the manager had spoken to us—he hadn’t. She went to follow up, and only then did he finally come over. His excuse was appalling: he claimed it was from new mop heads that had been delivered and left on the counter. Mind you, I had never said I believed it was from a mop—so clearly, he recognized it and tried to gaslight me with a poor excuse. He offered a free drink and a bad excuse and an insincere apology. I didn’t want to ruin my niece’s birthday, so I stayed quiet. But let’s be honest—this was revolting. The food on my plate was also undercooked: pink pork, half-cooked chicken wings, and overall just poorly prepared. I had roast pork, beef, a wing, ribs, rice, spinach, pumpkin, potatoes, and coleslaw. After the incident, I stopped eating altogether. I’ve been up since 3 a.m. with food poisoning symptoms—stomach cramps, nausea, and a runny tummy. The only redeeming part of our experience was our lovely waiter, Memory. She was kind, helpful, and patient throughout. The rest of the staff were also polite and accommodating. We even tipped well because we value and respect the work of service staff. But this experience was unforgivable. The lack of accountability, the blatant lie, and the mishandling of a serious hygiene issue are the reasons I’ll never return. The atmosphere felt more like a dining hall than a restaurant—no music, no vibe. Just a serious lack of care. Do not eat here if you value your health. I am still appalled by what happened and how it was handled. One star is generous.
I found a dirty mop strand in my food. The manager had the nerve to lie and say it was a new mop head and offered a free drink, I am even more upset today because it had time to sink in, this man **** to my face knowing good and well that we both knew that was a USED, DIRTY mop strand. It’s the next day and I have food poisoning from their food.
