Concerned Parent Seeks Clarity on Oceans Private School, Midrand Campus As a parent of three kids attending Oceans Private School, Midrand Campus, I became concerned after reading some negative reviews on social media. Since I hadn't been invited to parents' meetings in a while, I decided to visit the school to get clarity on what I had been reading. I raised the following concerns: 1. Is the school registered with the Department of Education? 2. Are the teachers qualified? 3. Do you have teachers for all classes? 4. Why are you not calling for parents' meetings? Management's Response The management answered my questions satisfactorily, and I learned several things I wasn't aware of. - *Registration*: The school is registered with the Gauteng Department of Education. They showed me the registration certificates displayed in the reception area. - *Accreditation*: They're in the final stages of getting a center number with Umalusi. - *Matric exams*: Matric learners have been writing exams at a designated center provided by the Department of Education. From next year, learners will write exams on campus. - *Teacher qualifications*: Teachers are qualified, holding degrees or diplomas with relevant phase qualifications and SACE registration. - *Teachers without SACE*: Some foreign-origin teachers had qualifications but lacked SACE certificates, leading to their replacement. - *Teachers for classes*: The school has teachers for all classes. - *Parent meetings*: The school has adopted one-on-one meetings with concerned parents. Personal Analysis I've seen that the school may lack some things to provide standard education, but they're trying their best. Challenges often result from parents indirectly influencing kids to be rude to teachers and management. As parents, if we write or talk negatively about the school, how do we expect our kids to behave? Let's work with the school and support them rather than criticizing baselessly. We need to raise our children together with the teachers.
