I think I am being ghosted by this company in my attempts to get them to update my account correctly with payments made in 2020 that do not reflect on my statement. They have all the proof of payments on email. I want to settle the account, but with the correct amount. I have also requested for a final settlement amount to be considered, which they said they were waiting for their clients response; I have not received any answer back. Not sure why it is taking 3 months to sort out. My advice to anyone in a debt collection situation is: 1. Go read up on your rights as a debtor. 2. The Council of Debt Collectors can also be a useful tool in making complaints against undue harassment and other issues with debt collectors. 3. Communicate via e-mail and keep all correspondence. 4. Negotiate payments you can afford and still be able to feed yourself. 5. Pay more if you can and keep all proof of payments made. 6. Scrutinize every item on the statements that you receive. 7. Do NOT be afraid to question anything on your statement. 8. And yes, debt collectors DO make mistakes, but do not expect an apology. 9. Do not allow them to harass you with excessive phone calls when you are paying every month. 10. If you for some reason cannot pay them, communicate before it becomes a problem. 11. Remember, they are in it to make money and you are trying to get out of it to pay up what you owe. Both have rights and both have avenues of recourse.
