On 29 January 2026, my sister and I went to Zevenwacht Restaurant for lunch and had a truly unpleasant experience. I ordered the short ribs with mash, and my sister ordered the oxtail with mash and vegetables. When we ordered drinks, I asked for a margarita, only to be told after ordering that ****tails were not available. I then ordered an apple juice and a Sprite Zero. Our waiter, Onki, did not check on us at all during the meal. While I enjoyed my short ribs, my sister bit into her oxtail and discovered a green bottle fly inside the food. She immediately became sick and started vomiting. Shockingly, no staff member noticed or came to assist us. I had to call a waiter myself and ask that a manager be called. The manager arrived and gave what felt like a very half-hearted apology. He later returned to say that it looked as if the fly may have landed on the food when it was brought to the table. As someone who works in hospitality, I strongly disagree — that fly had clearly been in the food before it was served. It did not just land there moments before. What made the situation worse was how it was handled. It felt as though we were being blamed, rather than taken seriously. The only “solution” offered was a free bottle of wine on our next visit — something we could easily buy ourselves. There was no proper accountability, concern, or reassurance about food safety. This was an extremely expensive and deeply disappointing experience, especially given the seriousness of the hygiene issue. A situation like this should have been handled with urgency, care, and professionalism. Instead, it was brushed off. Sadly, we will not be returning.
