I am deeply disappointed by the treatment my sister received at the maternity labour ward at Bheki Mlangeni District Hospital. Childbirth is one of the most vulnerable moments in a woman’s life, and instead of being met with care and compassion, she experienced nurses with very poor attitudes and a lack of empathy. No woman in labour should feel dismissed or unsupported. What makes it worse is that patients’ phones are taken when they go into theatre, yet calls from worried family and friends go unanswered. We were left anxious and stressed with no updates, not knowing what was happening. This is not just about one person — it’s about basic human decency and proper communication. Maternity wards should prioritise kindness, professionalism, and reassurance. I truly hope management takes these concerns seriously so other families don’t have to go through the same experience. If you want, I can also help you write a more direct complaint addressed to hospital management or the Gauteng Department of Health.
