I am sharing my personal experience with a pool installation done by Tygerberg Pools. The project was delayed multiple times beyond the original timeline provided. During excavation, a fibre line on the property was cut. We were informed it was in the way. This was done without consulting us beforehand, and we had to resolve the issue through our ISP at our own cost. Electrical wiring for the irrigation system was cut and later rewired incorrectly. An incorrect wire type was used and cemented into the pool skirting. As a result, a new electrical line had to be installed at our cost. We were advised to purchase a second Kreepy Krauly because we were told the first unit was faulty (it was new). It later appeared that the issue was related to the heating plumbing configuration, which was not set up correctly. This additional cost was carried by us. The foreman was not consistently present on site. This required us to supervise the workers closely. In doing so, we prevented issues such as uneven skirting, visible tile chips being left in place, and the pool being positioned incorrectly in relation to the house. There is permanent damage and cement residue on much of the mosaic tiling. Paving work included in the quotation was only partially completed. Several areas were left unfinished. The sections that were done are uneven, sloped, and include broken bricks. Cement marks and brick discoloration were not corrected. The paving will need to be redone. The pump was installed next to the borehole to reuse an existing electrical point, as advised by the foreman. However, that plug only receives power when the borehole timer activates, making it unsuitable for the pump. We were told we would need to pay an electrician to install a new power point. Some rubble was left behind and there were minor damages, which can be expected with construction work but are noted for completeness. We were charged premium rates for non-standard items (for example, R750 per meter of paving), but the overall quality of workmanship did not meet our expectations based on those costs. We selected this company based on prior positive reviews, but our experience differed significantly. I am posting this review to reflect what occurred during our installation and to assist others in making an informed decision.
I've had plenty of bad service delivery before, but this one takes the cake (beating out Telkom and Home Affairs). Here is a list of the main issues we had with a pool installation by Tygerberg Pools: Pool installation delayed multiple times. Fibre line was cut, not by accident, but because it was in the way — without consulting us. We had to resolve it through our ISP, bearing the cost. Electrical wiring for irrigation was cut and incorrectly rewired. The wrong wire type was used and cemented into the pool skirting. A whole new line had to be laid at our cost. Bought a second Kreepy Krauly, as they claimed the first was broken (it was brand new). Turns out it was the heating plumbing they installed that was not set up correctly. Cost on us. Foreman was barely on-site, which resulted in us needing to oversee the workers. If not for that, the skirting would have been laid poorly, chips in tiles ignored, and even the pool would have been placed skew to the house had we not intervened. Permanent damage and cementing on the majority of the mosaic tiling. Paving was only partially redone (despite being part of the quote). Whole sections were left undone, with the parts that were done being extremely uneven, at an angle, using broken bricks, with cement marks left everywhere and discoloration of bricks ignored when re-laying. All needs to be redone. Pump installed next to the borehole to reuse an existing electrical point (foreman insisted that would be the best place). It turns out that the plug only gets power when the borehole timer switches on, meaning it cannot be used by the pump. Their response: “Not our problem — you must pay an electrician to install a new plug.” Rubble left behind and minor damages (expected with construction, but worth mentioning). They overcharge for anything non-standard (e.g. R750 per meter of paving) but deliver poor service and poor quality. We chose them based on other good reviews, so I am not sure what happened to oom Jan and his team, but my advice is to find another provider
