Basically, if you took the money you would spend (for a family of four + one adult) to any of the China Mall type shops in Port Elizabeth - asked for as many LED christmas lights you can get for that amount, you could turn any garden into a more impressive light show than these shysters set up. There was nothing impressive, nothing "high tech" or "state of the art" - just a whole lot of cheap lights wrapped around stuff and 2 or 3 gimmicks. Anyone over the age of perhaps 4 could not possibly have been impressed with it, we drove to the beachfront afterwards (in an effort to make up for the failed "we are going to see something cool tonight" build up) and managed to recover some street cred with the kids. This David Huni guy should be ashamed of himself, but then again, I read the reviews before going (unfortunately after buying tickets) - so I kind of new what I was getting into, but what could have only been paid for articles in PE's publications and the videos of awed people going to the pre-launch did give me a false sense of hope. To be honest, everyone involved in letting this rubbish carry on should be ashamed of themselves - The Herald for bumping the "We arent running a scam" articles and the people in the video clips for promoting this **** shoot of an "extravaganza".
It takes 12 days max for something to arrive from the other side of the world (from when an order is placed) - SAPO and its Jhb hub take 2 months to send it on locally. Tracking of parcels is almost non-existent, one day you may get a response, but for weeks afterwards the website doesn't even load. The people you have to contact rarely respond, if they do it is just to tell you that its sitting in the Jhb hub, they don't know why it hasn't gone out yet. It almost feels like the people working there treat parcels as their personal wish lists, going through everything and sending on the things they dont want after a few months (they have gotten their unfair share of my cellphone covers over the years) - at which point we miss out on the 60 day "return or refund" policies most suppliers offer or have already said the item never arrived and have gotten a refund (even though the item did get to SA, just not through the incompetence bureau). This makes South Africans look shady on a global scale, where in fact, the only shady people are the ones meant to be handling our parcels.
