I recently visited the Scentlab store in Modderfontein with high expectations, having been a long-time customer of luxury fragrance brands (SKINS, ARC). Unfortunately, my experience was incredibly disappointing. I had made it clear to Precious (Front Desk) that I had called their business number and made the person on the line aware that I would be returning their products (2 fragrance oils) due to my disappointment in the quality of the perfume oils (Poor silage, use of synthetic oils, etc.) Upon arriving, Precious called Zama (Sales Rep), who offered a replacement to which I declined as I did expressed that I might encounter that same poor quality with the other options. I understood that she would not be able to make the call on a refund to which I requested I talk to her direct report. This is when things went downhill. From the moment she arrived, I was met with a dismissive and condescending attitude from the Sales Manager (Thandiso). Despite expressing my knowledge and passion for fragrances, I was treated with disrespect and even questioned about my legitimacy as a fragrance enthusiast. The Sales Manager's behavior was unprofessional and completely unacceptable. Such treatment is not only a reflection of poor customer service but also damages the reputation of the Scentlab brand. I subsequently contacted Scentlab on the 12th of December 2024 directly, including the Founders Justin and Hudson, to express my concerns and request a resolution. However, my emails have been completely ignored, further demonstrating their disregard for customer satisfaction. I urge potential customers to proceed with caution when considering a purchase from Scentlab Modderfontein. Their treatment of customers is unacceptable, and I believe it is important to share my experience to prevent others from encountering similar issues.
Went for brunch with a colleague today and left with a bad taste in our mouths. It was not the food but the treatment that I received from our waiter, Pat. After having our Cappuccino’s, I informed our waiter that we would be viewing the offices above (Workshop 17) so may he please keep our tab open as we would soon return. I jokingly said that I can leave my wallet if he feel uncomfortable. He doubled down and said that people like me, Black, he does not trust with such statements but since my colleague, White, was present, he would allow us to leave. This soured the rest of our lunch and my colleague, European, intended to bring his wife and stay at the hotel but changed his mind as if such perceptions would be made about Black people, his wife would be treated just as worse. Better to go to the dozens of other better restaurants that will not act as if Rosebank is an Apartheid enclave. A shame because it put us off Voco Hotel & Workshop 17. Stunning example at ruining the reputation at multiple businesses! Rotten place! Better spend your money where you are respected and seen as an equal!
