I bought a Speck Pumps Rechargeable Spa and Liner-Pool Vac from Takealot in August. Lasted 3 Months. I used it to clean a small 1x1m pond. It started switching on by itself while packed away and died shortly after, under warranty. Speck pumps refused to repair or replace the unit and blamed me for water damage, claiming I submerged the unit - Which I did not do, I cant even fit the unit in my pond diagonally, I would would have to run a bath and submerge it there or go to the neighbors and use their pool :D Anyway don't buy one of these, it is not a robust device and will break.
I wrote a review at the start of May about the "Sports Injury Benefit" and how difficult it is to claim, here's that first review: https://www.hellopeter.com/discovery-health/reviews/sports-injury-benefit-is-a-5716303 I then followed up with another review 10 days later, discussing mainly that I was being instructed by Discovery Health to "train" the medical practices I dealt with on how to submit ICD 10 codes, as they failed to submit the right codes which failed my claims. It's worth noting that Discovery has no "margin for error" with these codes and will deny your claim even if a code is partially incorrect or the invoice is without a doubt related to the injury based on descriptions. Here's that review: https://www.hellopeter.com/discovery-health/reviews/sports-injury-benefit-is-a-*******-5734203 Today I am writing to complain about my why my physical therapy related to my injury was rejected. In short, I broke a finger quite badly and was referred by a Hand Surgeon to a the****** within their practice, the the****** performed physical therapy on my finger, bending and stretching it, showing me the physio I'd have to "exercise" alone and they also constructed a brace for the finger. I received correspondence from Discovery that the Sports Injury Benefit does not cover occupational therapy, which is the designation the the****** held. The reality is, the "Sports Injury Benefit" is complicated to the point where you the beneficiary will have to jump through endless hoops and complete admin for discovery, while in pain. I have since injuring my finger had a fracture in my Fibula obtained in soccer, I visited my GP, got a referral to Xrays, Saw a specialist and am going to physio currently, I am not going to claim for any of this and am happy to pay out of pocket, the thought of trying to submit this as a claim feels like too much of a mountain to climb. I am done with Discovery, and I think my company will be looking elsewhere for company medical benefit as well.
10 Days ago I wrote a review of Discovery Health related to their Sports Injury Benefit which from my experience is so difficult to benefit from that it can be likened to a S C A M. This is a follow-up review about the same matter. Discovery Health has responded to my previous review by contacting me, investigating my claim, and ultimately determining that the claim cannot be processed because the ICD 10 codes on the invoices do not match. They then proceeded to instruct me to have these codes aligned, essentially asking me to contact a surgeon, a physiothe****** and xray department separately and instructing them to update their invoices and send them again. You can imagine how this is going. No response from 2 of the 3, and so the claim is stuck. What bewilders me is that Discovery Health doesn't have a "margin for error" when receiving claims that consists of multiple different invoices from different providers, surely they can put 2 and 2 together and determine that a claim is legitimate? For instance, all three of my invoices submitted refer to my injury in one shape or form: I broke and dislocated my finger, the one invoice is from a hand surgeon consultation, the other one from a the****** who clearly lists "finger splint", and the Xray invoice well includes the original referral from the GP that submitted the SIB in the first place. Discovery will make you do their job for them, the job of training various institutions on the SIB process and related ICD - 10 codes. They will make you do this while injured and in pain, I have been typing this and every other email correspondence with a broken finger. I am considering dropping down a tier, convincing my company of choosing a different medical aid benefit provider as this is the second time that I am jumping through hoops, sitting on phone calls, emailing multiple institutions, just for a single claim. I am going to submit a 1 star review every 10 days until this is resolved. Booking these in my calendar.
I am on the Classic Smart Plan and my issue relates to the Sports Injury Benefit which according to their brochure on the benefit includes the following: "Upon activating the benefit, you will have access to the following healthcare services: • Unlimited basic black and white x-rays • Two specialist consultations per person per year when referred by a Smart Network GP • Four consultations per person per year to a physiothe******, biokineticist or chiropractor when referred by a Smart Network GP." Seen here: https://discoveryhealthmedicalscheme.co.za/wcm/discoverycoza/assets/medical-aid/benefit-information/2024/sports-injury-benefit-on-the-classic-smart-plan.pdf Earlier in April I dislocated a finger while playing soccer, I subsequently saw Dr Giles King who activated the Sports Injury Benefit and referred me to get xrays done, after receiving the report Dr Giles King then referred me to a specialist, Dr Dirk Van Der Spuy, who then referred me to a the******, who I saw twice. In short: GP activated SIB, referred me to Xrays, GP referred me to Specialist, who referred me to a the******. I have submitted claims for the Xrays, specialist, visit, and the****** separately. Then tried again as a single submission. Tried variations, added the screengrab from the GP which included the ICD 10 codes. Nothing, it's not getting approved. I have tried submitting on both discovery and discovery health apps, and per email to claims@discovery - who just haven't responded after 2 weeks. It's worth adding here that the claims submission process on the apps doesn't have any way of listing ICD 10 codes, which means if there's a mismatch on an invoice, you just hope it's not an issue. I am going to share this review on as many discovery health social media posts as I can until my claim is settled.
