I bought a hearing aid from Hearsense for my mother about 4 years ago and I took it in for repairs at the same shop in Claremont. I was told that the repairs do not cost a lot (less than R1000 usually) and so decided to go ahead with it. A few days later Hearsense called me to give a quote which was a lot more than what I expected over R1000. I asked for the specifics of the repairs and until today I have never been communicated anything about the repairs done even though I asked for it many times on email, in person and over the phone. They asked me if I would like to go ahead with the repairs, I was shocked by the price but at the same time I wanted to make sure that the repairs done are worth the money and the hearing aid will last for some time. They told me that they can't give me any guarantee and the hearing aid could last for a week or a month even after the repairs. After emailing the MD, he insisted on me making an upfront payment and I was told that the costs of repairs need to be settled regardless of whether the hearing aid is repaired or not - this is unheard of at any reputable organisations. I had no choice but to make the payment and send the PoP on the same day!!
