O'Vicente hosted eight of us on Tuesday evening. The restaurant was quiet but we were made to feel at home by the efficient and friendly waitress. My sardines served with roasted vegetables were lovely if slightly overcooked, but the prawns everyone else had were large and delicious. We look forward to seeing the crowds back there again!
SuperSconto in Louis Botha Avenue Johannesburg is uncompromisingly Italian. With a very comprehensive selection of Italian goods in their delicatessen, it is a delight to shop there. Their sit-down coffee is superb, as is their 'point and select' lunch from their delicatessen which is then served at the table - mine a sourdough panini with Mortadella from Italy and pickled artichokes. Everything is so nice!
On the 23rd February I entered the Eastgate Branch of Telkom. I sat in a non-signposted chair-lined queue, until kind customers pointed out to me that if I wanted a consultant, I should stand near the consultants' desks. I did so, and stood there for 25 minutes. I am 73 years old.<br> At no time in the interim had I been greeted or acknowledged in any way, except by customers. Telkom branded staff walked past me several times with no greeting or assistance. Staff trudged by, I was still ignored. Finally after 25 minutes at 17h20, a lady with no Telkom branding asked if she could help. I needed a consultant so she told me to wait. I informed her I understood that, but could not understand the indifference and rudeness of the staff there. They talked to each other constantly, a customer sat and ate his takeaway on a consultant's desk (not professional - is that allowed?) and I left without being assisted. Because the consultants were apparently busy, this is not my complaint. I just don't understand why they were so rude and unfriendly.
