An ex friend and I decided to rent a house in Parys together. We agreed on 56 Boom St, a rather run down but pleasant seeming house near the Vaal River in Parys F.S. Since my friend had no money at the time I paid all the expenses entailed: moving, two months deposit, and rent for the 3 months we were there The agent was Pieter Venter of Property Solution, the landlord's brother. The landlord, Johan Venter, is on the verge of bankruptcy for non-payment of taxes on the house but we did not know this at the time. I paid a R14000 deposit (Two months rent) and have paid the rent ever since. I pay it into my friends account and he (to save male pride) pays the lease with the money. I pay him monthly. My friend never paid me back nor did he ever contribute any rent money. Our relationship soured and I decided to leave. The landlord Johan Venter has, according to the municipality (and admitted by him) not paid taxes on the property for months and is danger of having it confiscated. I gave the Landlord the required two month's notice (verball.via whatsapp) as required on the contract.and paid the rent for the final two months into my friends account. Now my friend does not want to leave, the landlord won't return my deposit and I am told that because I "vacated" the property without notice (I still pay rent) I no longer have any right to it. I wont get my depost back either and my "friend" can use my deposit as his. I won't stand for this and am determined to get my money back. This is fraud.
