This lady has immediately responded to our interest in a Ridgeback puppy where we got her details on the internet from. She attached pictures of the puppies on her email with a very long and colourful story of how the dogs are house trained, looking for a loving and caring home. She also mentioned that if we are breeders, we must disclose this or else she will not be selling the dog to us. To her the wellbeing of the dogs, attention, walking with them, having kids or not, etc are the most important. Also she noted that they are Christians, etc and that they are honest people. Furthermore, she said that the puppy will be flown to Bloemfontein togethere with another puppy, of which the name wasn't even on the list of "puppies for sale" and then the air transfer company will deliver the dog to our doorstep on a farm, 110km from Bloemfontein, at 17h30. The total cost for the puppy is R3500 and R500 for the delivery. A 50% deposit is payable before delivery and the rest upon delivery. It all just sounded too good to be true.. As I previously encountered scammers, I told my husband that I'm going to rather google for a guest house in the town, Kakamas in the Northern Cape, and try and find out if the people know this Catherine, seeing it's a small close knit community. The owner of the guesthouse said he doesn't know somebody with this name at all and also told me that we are about the 4th people he came across where they were scammed by a person selling puppies and when they got there, the address didn't exist. One guy even booked a room at his guesthouse, travelling from far to fetch the puppy the next day, and couldn't find the address given to him. I then phoned the telno provided and a lady answered, she talked with an Eastern accent and there was a loud ecoiing sound over the phone, like a repeat of my voice at the other side. I told asked her if the puppy would really be delivered the next day to our doorstep and she confirmed it again. By asking her but what time will it be as it gets dark earlier nowadays, she said the plane is leaving already in Upington at 14h00 the afternoon and will definetly be in Bloemfontein during daylight, delivering the puppy at 17h30 on our farm. I said okay let's just think about it. I then sent her an email saying we will not be taking the puppy anymore due to previous experience with scammers, we don't feel comfortable with the whole thing. She then asked if she did something wrong, then the next mails came through one after the other of how honest they are doing business, etc. I told her, okay, only way we will do the deal is by only paying the full amount upon delivery as the same honesty I expect from her, she must then expect from me. She then said we are welcome to pick up the dog at the Bloemfontein airport if that will make us more at ease, but that would have costed us another tank of fuel. She said she just wanted to make the "transition" a smooth process by delivering it to our doorstep.
