Name and Shame – Radcon Projects – Please Share

I am posting this NOT because I think it will result in the poor workmanship related to my property being repaired/corrected or me being refunded for the costs I’ve had to pay to fix issues thus far, we are way past that and after numerous promises and attempted repairs of sub standard quality I have given up and got another contractor to carry out repairs. If this post reaches someone and can prevent them from ending up in the same situation then it was worth the effort to type this, so please share.

Many promises are made but poor workmanship is guaranteed. No building project goes without hick-ups but this is ridiculous. To sum up, I now have to replace the skirting’s in my house (all of them) and due to that repaint the interior completely, I have to replace bedroom cupboards and some vanities due to leaks, I have to get the roof repaired that has been leaking for 2 months (see damage to walls and cupboards from leaking roof), waterproofing needs to be done properly on some sections of the house, paint quality is poor and needs repair all over. Since I moved in in November I have spent approx R20k on repairing poor plumbing, alignment of glass and with the electrical board as the electrical installation was let’s say “less than legal”.When I contact them I get told to phone another plumber as they don’t have time now, but I am never reimbursed for the damage. I will probably need to spend another R50k-R60k on repairing the other items I noted above, and the list is by no means exhaustive. Some of you may ask why I didn’t hold money back until I was completely satisfied, the reason was that the builder refused to give me the occupancy certificate before he was paid in full... so my options were move into my house and pay or stay in my rental property. I was getting quite tired of paying rent considering my house was 6 months over the completion deadline...

I am now tired of all the excuses and being told that the subcontractor is at fault for this and that ( I didn’t hire a subcontractor, I contracted with Radcon, Radcon hired the subcontractor and that has nothing to do with me as client ). The workmanship and related “repairs” are so poor that I decided to tell them to not come back (since they never pitch when agreed in any case, repairs they did do were not done properly and then I have to “wait till we are done with our other job”. Thank God that I had my own engineer signing off on structure etc. The fact that water leaks into my room and hallway is of no concern to them. Also, I get calls from suppliers to this day asking me why they have not been paid for materials, materials that I have paid Radcon for as per progress certificates. My Architect, a very well known one, also commented that his firm will never work with Radcon or anyone associated with them again. They make the client feel like they are doing them a favour to come back and “help with the issues”. If it was done properly the first time then it would not need to be repaired, and considering the project was > 6 Months past the completion deadline they had all the time in the world to do a proper job, just don’t think they care

I now personally know of at least 2 other cases of workmanship like the above in centurion from Radcon and the mo is the same, excuses and blaming this and that on the reason why they can’t correct their workmanship. I have used them before in an old house just for some painting etc and that went ok, but when it comes to building....
