incorrect deductions from rental deposit

My daughter rented a student room from them in Stellenbosch. No move-in inspection was done however they are now trying to deduct from the deposit the costs for damage and re-painting that was caused by the previous tenant. When I queried this - they said they would come back to me and nothing for over a week. So far I've had NO deposit paid back - not even the reduced amount, and also no feedback.

According to SA rental law - with no inspection they are not eligible to make the deductions. Irritating. I really could do without the hassle of taking them to the rental tribunal - but it is starting to look like I will have to. Avoid them if possible
