Rope-worx were contracted to repaint a residential block of 12 flats in Tamboerskloof, of which I am an owner. For the duration of the renovation / repaint they had a hut inside the premises which their guys used to store paint, ropes, protective clothes, boots etc Towards the end of the project in Dec 2018 they broke down the hut and stored all the remaining equipment in the Municipality Electrical room. This room is normally only accessed by Council staff but the *****s on the hinges have been removed and so they pulled the door open this way. To my knowledge this is an extreme Fire Hazard and as far as I'm aware goes against the Safety Regulations that Contract companies adhere to? Not knowing this, I was advised one day by my tenant that she had no lights in the flat but that only the plugs were working. I rushed through the following day (cancelling clients) to meet an electrician to resolve this. When I called the Electrician and explained the problem he advised that it sounded like a Municipality issue when lights don't work and plugs do. He advised that I call them to resolve. I said I'd go into the Electrical room myself and try and see what the issue was. My husband was with me and when we managed to open the door we found Rope-worx paint, cement, boots etc piled high in the room. Everything was leaning up against the Municipal plugs and as a result 2 of the switches had been knocked down ie off 1 to my flat and 1 other. We immediately removed everything except for 2 huge bags of cement and I contacted John the foreman and told him he needs to come and remove everything as it was now lying in the yard. He said he would and came the following day. The point of this very long diatribe was that my tenant was with out electricity for the entire evening and she battled through with candles etc. In the middle of her nightmare she knocked a tray off the kitchen island and smashed a glass panel in my scullery door. I feel that Rope-worx are responsible for this as it wouldn't have happened if the Electrical room wasn't used as a storage room. Again I've had this discussion with John and made contact with the MD Derek who hasn't responded to my email. I believe replacing the stained glass is the responsibilty of Rope-worx or at least share in the cost of the glass by Rope-worx. But they are simply ignoring my requests and not taking responsibility! Shame on you Rope-worx.
