African Bank has been in partnership with SA Homeloans for several years to process staff loan applications. However, there appears to be a concerning inconsistency in how these applications are handled. When an ordinary staff member’s loan application is declined, the decision is treated as final with no apparent flexibility. Yet in the case of senior executives such as the CFO or heads of departments, exceptions appear to be made by African Bank, allowing their applications to be processed through the previous Grindrod Bank process, which appears to offer more favourable terms. This raises serious questions about fairness, governance, and transparency. If a specific process has been established through this partnership for staff loan applications, it should apply consistently to all employees rather than allowing alternative channels or preferential arrangements for senior executives. Situations like this raise concerns about whether governance standards and regulatory expectations within the banking and financial sector are being app**** consistently.
