After my recent experience, I definitely will not be recommending Sabaan Holiday Resort.
I booked a stay for two, more than three months in advance and secured my booking with the payment of the 50% deposit. Two weeks later, I was contacted by staff member Rina, who explained to me that they had received a booking request for a larger group of people for the same time slot, and that they would not be able to accommodate them unless we move our stay to a different weekend. She added that they really needed the income given that it had been a difficult year for them with the circumstances of COVID-19, lockdown and the political unrest.
Even though I felt that this wasn't a very professional thing to do (especially since we had already paid the deposit, booked the time off work and started planning activities in the area), their situation appealed to my human side and I sympathetically agreed to try and find a different time slot that would work for my partner and I. I was promised that they would accommodate us at any other available time slot.
I managed to identify one other weekend that would work for the both of us but I was turned down since they had already received a booking for two larger groups (which I was not told at the time they asked me to surrender my booking). It was then suggested that we move our booking to be more than a month earlier than planned (which entirely defies the point of our planning in advance). I then requested a refund (which was extremely reluctantly received).
I could not get a straight answer out of them and was later told that they had to "request permission" to refund my money. Unfortunately, I was unable to find any T's and C's related to the process anywhere on their website and I am now left guessing if I will be receiving my hard earned money back that I paid more than three months in advance (not to mention that I am not even the one who needed to cancel the booking).
I am very, very disappointed that I was treated in this way, particularly after I had been willing to give up my booking and revise all my plans in order to help them out. The bigger bookings obviously took preference over the little one's which I don't think is very ethical at all. Money really does talk, it seems...
