Chantal Dubowit As a local resident, we have been disappointed twice in the space of 2 weeks. In the first week of Jan (after the holiday rush) we decided to pop down to the Salt Rock Hotel with our son to catch the sunset on the beach at the tidal pools and end off with an early supper at the hotel. On arrival at the gates we were turned away by the security stating that the restaurant was closed and that we could not enter the hotel. Sadly, our evening plans were dulled by this and we turned around with a very disappointed little man who so desperately wanted to go down to the beach with us and then enjoy something to eat before going home. I called the hotel to ask if something had changed as we have regularly gone to the hotel numerous times before with our family, to do exactly this, and have never had a problem. The lady who answered was extremely short and inattentive. After enquiring whether we could try again the following Friday, I was quickly dismissed and had the phone put down on me. In the past during holidays, we used to be able to enter the hotel, pay a R200 deposit and go down to the beach, then use the R200 (and some) towards a meal and drinks at the hotel afterwards. This seems to be no more. This afternoon 19 Jan, we were turned away again by security on arrival. The plan was to take our son to the tidal pool and have a bite to eat before coming home. @saltrockhotel this is very disappointing especially as we locals have regularly supported you throughout the years. Your parking lot speaks volumes of how "busy" you are, (both times now, it was very empty). Perhaps you CAN afford to only have visitors from out of town. Business must have been booming in December. As loyal patrons and residents, our family has camped at the caravan park a few times. We have had many Sunday roasts and midweek breakfasts, but I am afraid that today was the last time we will come to support the hotel and enjoy it's facilities and restaurant. I am sure that we are not the only locals who have experienced this recently, something has changed, and this experience has left a bitter taste in our mouths as we have had such lovely times there. I have read quite a few reviews from the last year, it seems things are on the downward trend there sadly. Perhaps a change of attitude and listening to the feedback given regarding your service etc will help you keep this landmark of the North Coast alive. Very sad to see other people have also not had great experiences recently. Please read your Google reviews as well.
