First time doing the picnic at Groot Constantia (Simons Restaurant). Beautiful place and the weather was stunning. Room for improvement: We initially received the incorrect box but had a short wait whilst it was repacked. Dessert was disappointing, 4 tartlets of which the base had softened and become stale. The kids box looked poorly. A yoghurt cup, a cheese bun, a paper bag of chicken strips, packet of NikNaks, packet of sweets and a golden delicious apple that was brown and soft. Please take more care with presentation and contents of the kiddies box. In the cutlery box at our setting, there were dirty forks, likely used by the last guests and left back in the box. Our picnic was prepaid. We received a service fee of R84 on our drinks bill of R100. The pro's: The setting is beautiful and there are ample blankets as well as tables. Well behaved doggos are welcome. The Double box for the adults contained some great offerings (charcuterie selection on top, delicious coronation chicken and salads at the base. The price for the picnic is fantastic. Drinks are sold separately and are reasonably priced. The waitstaff are fantastic.

We returned to Simons a week ago after a very enjoyable meal end January with Los Angeles guests. On 30th March my wife made a reservation with a visitor from Vancouver. As it was now crowded we decided to sit outside on the terrace. Blankets were provided & Rutendo looked after us well. The food this day was 1 star at best. My beef burger was tasteless my wife's chicken burger was tough and the fish of the day was also tasteless. The calamari starter was ok but breaded. The wine local Merlot was good. Admittedly the staff were very busy but alll three of the mains were really of very poor quality. We are all keen on cooking and would not return based on this experience. R900 was way over the top for this quality. On calling in , may wife was offered a glass of wine on the house when we next return. They can save the wine, we shall not be returning!

I was mistreated terribly at this restaurant. Due to lack of reception at the area I was unable to find an Uber about 40 minutes before the restaurant closed. The manager spoke to me rudely and told me to leave despite explaining that I needed to find a car and was struggling. He then took some of my items out of the building and locked me out at that time of night, causing me to lose some clothing items that were in the bag he mishandled, a set of keys, a souvenir glass from Groot Constantia wine tasting that wa on my table, as well as a full bottle of bubbly that had cost me R250 and was meant to be taken home with me. When I called to report the matter 2 of the managers apologises for the behaviour. The senior manager then asked for an email but responded coldly to it, simply stating that she would investigate my accusation but not returning to me with regards. I called to confirm what had happened and was simply told by another manager that the investigation was complete and my items would not be compensated. No apology. No remorse. I was stranded so badly that I had to rely on a security patrol guard to find suitable transport due to lacking signal at the place but the restaurant itself are unapologetic about their manager’s rude treatment to begin with which left my life endangered. He had the option to seek a hired car from a different WiFi connection or wait until I was settled but he chose to kick me out after a 3 course meal and some drinks that I paid good money for. This definitely felt like a matter of my colour and I am highly disappointed. I would not recommend this place to people if colour at all.

Ordered ****in on Monday 19 July. ****in was stale, dry and tasteless. I was part of a hiking group - 60th birthday treat. Very disappointing. I had been looking forward to the event for a week. Very embarrassing for our host. Others in the party also had stale ****ins

I highly recommend Simon's at Groot Constantia, not only was the food absolutely divine, the staff and management was amazing. We organised my mother-in-law's 60th there and had such a wonderful time. The staff were on the ball and the management went beyond our needs. Thank you for making the day even better than expected. Our mother had the time of her life and all the guests were very impressed. Big ups to the whole team. Will definitely be back.
