26 Nov 2025, 09:05Greetings
Dear Sir/Madam,
My name is Janet James, I need your assistance, with regards to a refund for the amount of R10k, that SACOB refuses to refund, due to me.
In December 2022, I enrolled for a bookkeeping course, with SACOB(South African College of Business) & I paid the 50% deposit of R10k.
There were 4 Modules in this Bookkeeping course:-ICB Bookkeeping to Trial Balance,ICB Computerized Bookkeeping, ICB Payroll, ICB Business Literacy.
The total amount per Module= R4950.00 The total costs of the entire course was R19800.00. Total amount paid to Sacob, was +-R15k.
The course's began in Jan 23, where I received study materials via courier service & Sacob informed me, besides the study materials issued, immediate access was available to online resources/classes & I had the opportunity to contact a lecturer for further learning assistance.
Since Jan 23, to date, I never had the opportunity to study or read through the study guides.
My reasons for not studying or completing my Accounting course, was due to a medical condition discovered , during the month of February 2023.
I was diagnosed with neuropathy which causes stabbing pain, burning, tingling & numbness to my hand & feet, this condition requires, hospitalisation treatments of IV Steroids drip injections, nerve blocks, Epleptin medication, physical & occupational therapy.
After my diagnosis, I was hospitalised for a period of _+ 2/3 days, to treat the pain.
I undergo this treatment to prevent muscle weakness, loss of balance on my feet, cramps, numbness & loss of sensation or feeling in my hands & feet.
Once discharged from hospital, my recovery process was very slow & I was declared unfit to resume work, for a period of +-6 months, the prescribed pain medication Epleptin drug, dosage per day was increased from 100mg to 300mg.
I emailed proof of my medical history to Sacob, asking them to put my studies on hold, until further notice, which was accepted by them.
I received my study guides,/modules on below dates:-
17 Jan 23: BKTB
08 June 23: PMSR
08 June 23: CPB All of the above modules/study guides were received, but due to my illnesses, I was unable to study, participate or interact with the online classes/resources.
25 July 23: I informed SACOB, I was declared medically unfit & unable to continue with my studies, until further notice. (I shared proof of my medical history), & my monthly payments was stopped.
Debit orders, have been processed, against my account since Jan 23 with an amount of R816.66, per month.
From Jan 23 to date, SACOB management or lecturer' never made any attempts to contact me regarding reasons as to why I never tried, attempted or completed & submitted in 1st Module assignment.
My question is how does SACOB keep tract of students that don't comply with stipulated timelines of assignments submissions or students who don't adhere to their rules & regulations.
They have the resources to track unpaid debit orders, & implement immediate action, preventing further studying, until payment is fully paid.
24 November 25, I've engaged with Sacob via email & telephonically, explaining to them, I wanted a refund, reasons I'm unable to continue studies, due to my illnesses.
My medical conditions have not improved, since Feb 23 to date, this is the reason I've been boarded from work; & shared proof of both medical history & boarding.
Since Feb 23, to date every quarter, I have to go for neuropathy treatments 24 November 25, SACOB finance department e-mailed me, indicating that due to cancelation of my studies, I am liable to pay them the outstanding amount of R2101.40.
I'm unable to proceed with studying further, due to medical conditions & according to SACOB email, I'm not entitled to any refunds.
I'm aware of SACOB' non refundable policy, due to cancellation of a study programme.
I have read through SACOB' NON refundable policy, as per my understanding that there is NO mention on their policy, that refunds are NON refundable for cancellations of a study programme due to any type of permanent medical conditions, disabilities or illnesses, caused after enrollment to their study programme.
Please can I ask you to engage with higher management & reconsider my requests for my refund, from SACOB.
I never intentionally planned to quit my studies, or my job, due to unforseen circumstances, I cannot complete my studies or return to work.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated, in assisting me with this request.
Thank you.
