We often criticise Govt Departments . This one was very different . After nearly 3 years in Portugal we decided to return home to SA on One-way air tickets . My wife is an Irish citizen and the airline objected . We were rescued by our Embassy - this is how .

We decided to fly home from Portugal to SA on 1 way tickets . We were very worried by our travel agents concern about my wife returning to SA on an Irish passport . You assured us that her Bar coded ID book was sufficient proof of residence . 1 . My phone call to your embassy was answered promptly and efficiently by your colleague . 2 . You totally understood our problem and quickly provided the solution verbally and by e-mail . 3 . Our stress level and blood pressure returned to normal . 4 . Our booking and flight boarding proceeded as normal . Our sincere thanks to you and the SA embassy for your support and assistance to two very senior citizens ( 80 + ) on a very dark day !
