Based on recent customer reviews, Stevens & Co receives sharply divided feedback. Positive experiences frequently highlight manager Eric and staff at Midrand and Umhlanga for professional, gracious service and effective issue resolution, including machine replacements. However, recurring complaints centre on poor initial repair quality, with machines returned unfixed and customers driving long distances unnecessarily. Product discontinuation leaving owners without spare parts and warranty disputes on relatively new generators and tools also frustrate customers, leading some to question ongoing loyalty to the Ryobi brand entirely.

On Saturday 10 January 2026 I went to Ryobi Midrand for a blade and throttle cable for my lawnmower. I also needed parts for my chainsaw. Both these unit are less than 3 years old. All my power tools are Ryobi. I have been attending the annual yard sale for the last 5 years. To my shock I was told by the salesman that they do not have parts for my units as they have been discontinued. I now sit with machines which I cannot maintain. From the six parts I needed, I walked away with a generic throttle cable unit. Must I continue to support Ryobi, or do I now change my brand of power tools? If the salesman offered to assist in finding the parts for me, I would consider staying loyal to the brand. My lawnmower is a RM125P so if that is a mower you own you will not find parts at Ryobi as it is discontinued. My chainsaw is a CS38-35 with the same story.

We bought a brand new Ryobi generator which broke withing 15 days. We took it to Steven's & Co under the warranty. They called us and claimed we had to pay R1500 to fix the generator. We argued that it is still under warranty and will not pay. We end up paying for new oil and the spark plug, which I still feel is unfair. Now 5 months later the generator is broken again. I shutter to think I must-have it back to them. Why does a brand new machine, not even 5 months old cease pistons in 14 days, and break again in 4 months? I would not recommend anybody to buy Ryobi products or service them here.

I previously wrote a negative review about Stevens & co about the generator I bought from them, and the drive and inconvenience I experienced understanding that machines are just that machines, they break any time. I am writing to give a big ups to the company and specifically the manager Eric a very plasent guy. Thank you, for turning a bad situation to the best one. My machine was replaced

This review is as a result of the way my issue was handled by the Service Manager of Stevens & Company - Eric - Ryobi Products. Your graciousness and professionalism alone are worth 5 stars. Thank you for resolving this issue and thank you for your honesty. You could give classes on diplomacy.

Ryobi Leaf Blower Bought 20 Feb 2025 from Builders Warehouse Constantiaberg, CT Stopped working in June 2025, was returned to BWC June 2025. Response from Ryobi on Item RBV-3350 job card 179208 was that a piece of wire had been sucked into the impellor which was then damaged and resulted in the bearing being damaged. In reality when this was brought home and opened by the retired engineer and quality controller it was plainly apparent that the oilite rear bearing was as dry as a bone and was seized, and had worn out due to lack of lubrication. The impellor is perfect, no signs of destruction, nor damage. I am not sure if it was examined by Helen Keller or Stevie Wonder, or is this just the response to avoid repair under warranty or replacement because you think no one is able to open equipment to check on the supposed technicians and their findings? It’s also apparent from the numerous complaints here on Hello Peter that this is the MO. I also find it amazing that a piece of equipment designed to suck up garden / outside matter is capable of sucking a piece of wire into an impellor, with no safe-guards if this actually was the case. Previous blowers by Flymo and Lawn Star have lasted for 15, and 5 years respectively, and were retired due to wheels and handles or outer shells wearing out – they both must have been equipped with super-deluxe wire sensing abilities… The note accompanying the blower to the repairer read something like “running rough” or “shuddering”. If there was a piece of wire stuck in it, it would have been apparent, and also the impeller fins are perfect. This finding do not ring true. Ryobi has given a dishonest assessment.

I bought this machine generator from this company, on the 15th April 2025, before the machine can do even 15 hour for service the machine is giving problems. I took the machine in the company for the machine to be checked, after machine was checked I was told the machine was ok, I drove over 100kms on arrival the machine is giving same problems. I don't understand this about this company.

I returned a Ryobi belt sander to Stevens & Co on 5 May 2025 as the machine was defective and still under a 2 year warranty. Said supplier advised me via the merchant that the machine had been cleaned and "was working perfectly" under Ryobi Job Card 531825. Upon receipt of the machine on 29 May 2025, exactly the same fault was found as originally advised. Nothing had been done to repair the article. On a positive note, on phoning Eric at Stevens & Co and explaining the above, he promised to replace the machine immediately. 4 June 2025 and I'm still waiting for the replacement.
