I had a contract with The Host to manage my Airbnb, which clearly outlined the products I was to supply them and stipulated that all my bedding and other items would be returned once the contract ended.
When I sold my unit, the contract with the new owner stated that all furniture (as per a detailed list) would remain, but everything else, including my bedding and cutlery etc, was not part of the sale. I informed The Host about the sale and, per our agreement, only requested the return of my belongings once the unit was officially transferred to the new owner.
However, The Host took it upon themselves to contact the new owner in an attempt to keep the property under their management. The new owner then instructed them not to allow me access to retrieve my property—items that were clearly not included in the sale. We were happy to not have access to the property as The Host could get our belongings together and return them to us. Despite numerous attempts to resolve the matter, one of The Host’s partners blocked me on WhatsApp, never returned any emails, showing zero interest in rectifying the situation. It was evident that their priority was securing the new owner as a client rather than honoring their agreement with me.
The total value of the items they refused to return exceeds R20,000. I even offered them a discounted rate to purchase the items, yet they ignored me.
On top of this, every time I stayed in my unit, I noticed that other people’s linen and towels were being used, despite the fact that I had provided them with three full sets. Additionally, on two different occasions, my table was badly scratched, and my blinds were damaged—issues they didn’t even acknowledge until I pointed them out. I had to follow up multiple times just to get these matters addressed, giving me a total run around.
Save yourself the frustration and do not use this company. They are unprofessional & dishonest.
