My daughter treated me to a meal at the Hound, Bistro and Pub restaurant in Henley on Klip. There are three menus, Breakfast, All Day, and the evening menu. which is the most comprehensive. Pub food and Pizza are available all day too. The All Day menu suited us fine, with my daughter selecting pizza, my mother fish and chips, and I, oh Heaven!! found a salad that I can eat on my ridiculously limited diet that was not a Greek Salad. The owner, and Chef, Mark Gory, is in and out, very much a visible part of the operation, as are The Hounds, his treasured friends. Portions are substantial, ingredients are fresh and prepared with love and care, Staff are friendly, busy, but always ready to answer a question. meals like this do take a little longer, but the Berry Smoothie I ordered was more than delicious enough to keep me happy during the wait. The restaurant is decorated with quirkiness, and a love of history, jazz playing softly in the background, and of course, beautiful table settings. No bare table and a plate of cutlery delivered after your meal arrives as so often happens. It is preferable to book ahead. The wine menu, which I checked out, is good, the children's options are varied, the range across the board is from simple and honest, to "let me try something new". And deserts you have to go to confession for. Take a drive, just 40 minutes South of Joburg, listen to the birds, meet the Hounds at the Hound, and have a jolly good meal.

Privately owned, no franchises, but excellent cuisine. Mark is the ideal host who brings his pet dogs to meet the customers. Customers may even bring their four-footed friends along, who will be treated the same as human clientele, except in a separate exclusive area. Propped with antiquities and rare ornaments, The Hound is an attraction not to be missed. Bookings are essential on weekends.
