Unroadworthy vehicle and bad business practices
We hired a 4 ton refrigerated truck for 18 days. They where very fast with their quote. The truck had mechanical issues and a flat tyre on day 1. We had to wait 2.5 hours for their team to come and replace the tyre. Then had to drive 130km return trip, twice, to sort out the mechanical issue. I asked if they would deduct the 260km driven to repair their truck, but the answer was no. So I will never hire anything from them again.

DO NOT USE SPARTAN TRUCK HIRE – SAVE YOURSELF THE FRUSTRATION. Our experience with Spartan Truck Hire has been nothing short of frustrating and disappointing. Despite paying invoices promptly and in full, we encountered numerous discrepancies, including unexplained deposit adjustments, vague charges, and excessive mileage with no reasonable justification. Requests for clarity have been met with unsatisfactory responses, such as pointing to spreadsheets without providing substantive explanations. The lack of transparency and accountability is unacceptable, especially when customers are expected to pay for ambiguous charges. The company's refusal to address valid concerns, coupled with dismissive attitudes, has made resolving these issues unnecessarily burdensome. This experience has left us deeply dissatisfied, and we cannot recommend Spartan Truck Hire to anyone looking for reliable or professional service.

Spartan Truck Hire poor service/Highway Bakkie Hire exceptional service.
This company, more specifically Leigh Sigasa whom I dealt with, is inept. For a week I was told that that I could hire an H100 with towbar but when I was about to pay R15000.00 I decided to check with the branch who told me there is no such specification available. This jeopardised a very important project for us because we would have collected a paid-for vehicle which was not capable of towing the paid-for trailer and there would have been no time to make alternative arrangements by to meet our deadlines. I'm also still waiting for the cargo area dimensions because those on the website are obviously incorrect. Companies dealing with commercial vehicles need to understand that poor performance has major consequences for the client. I then contacted Lynn Wilson at Highway Bakkie Hire and was sorted within an hour, so will highly recommend HBH.

Seriously Irresponsible and Negligent company
I booked a refrigerated truck from Spartan to collect Fresh produce at the market worth about R100k. The truck was booked for 07h00 and they confirmed several times since 08h00 the truck is underway. At 12h30 we determined the truck was not dispatched yet. During this time our produce was laying on the pavement outside the market but and rot. We could only collet it at 14h30 with another truck. They had no interest to solve the problem and told us their company is structured in such a way that they can't be kept legally liable. The also go under the name Book A Bakkie. They did however refund.

No matter how desperate you are, never, ever go hire a bakkie at Spartan. If anyone feels robbed by this company please contact me, i would like to compile information so that we can expose them on National TV, we cant be treated unfairly like this.

DO NOT TRUST THESE GUYS, THEY WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY.
Rented a truck from these guys. They did not receive my first deposit so I paid a second deposit, R8k x 2. 20 minutes after collection of the vehicle, I got stuck alongside the highway in a pretty dangerous area. I then phoned Spartan Truck Hire to come fetch the vehicle, all the while driving very slowly, having to stop every few minutes to my destination. Spartan Truck Hire begged me to keep the vehicle, they would send out a technician that evening. The technician came, worked on the vehicle until about 22:00. I then used the vehicle from 06:00 the next morning, 45 minutes into my trip, the vehicle started breaking down again. I phoned Spartan Truck Hire who said its my problem and I should then rent more expensive vehicle. I have now been waiting almost 3 weeks for my deposit back, always an excise, from accounts is on it, sorry we are in meetings, et cetera. Today they tel me that they are taking both my deposits as it is my fault the vehicle broke. I have photos of the door rubbers literally falling off of the door, holes in the door while I am driving. Basically the vehicle is a danger, which is exactly what I said to them on the first complaint to them a few hours into renting the vehicle. DO NOT TRUST THESE GUYS, THEY WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY.

Spartan/Power Truck/ Rent a Bakkie/Dial a truck/ Smart Truck
We rented a 1-ton fridge truck from Power Truck, which also goes by the name Spartan/ Rent a Bakkie/Dial a truck/ Smart Truck. The fact that this company has to use this many pseudonyms is already a red flag. Upon returning the vehicle full of fuel, filled up at the filling station near their depot in Isando, we received an invoice charging us for an extra 2 litres of fuel, as well as a service fee. When we queried this, we were fobbed off. The second time we rented the same vehicle, we immediately drove to the filling station to see whether the fuel tank was given to us full. It wasn't. 8 litres empty in fact amounting to R240.10. We sent photos of the truck being filled at the filling station with the slip and gave them the name of the petrol attendant, only to be fobbed off again and the suspicion thrown on us. We never got our money back AND we were charged again for a few litres they said they had to add to the vehicle, even though we had filled it at the filling station around the corner from them. This company is corrupt and incompetent. Even getting an invoice with correct vat details on was a fight - I had to ask for it several times. Save yourself a lot of pain and never use: Spartan/Power Truck/ Rent a Bakkie/Dial a truck/ Smart Truck or whatever other name they might use in the future.
