I would like to caution others about a service provider known as Nonku the Cook / Thingo Eats and catering from Newcastle. I booked and paid her in January 2025 for an event scheduled for December 2025.
Fast forward to two weeks before the event, she cancelled, stating that her transport does not reach my area in Mpumalanga. This raised concerns, as this is something that should have been known and communicated well in advance. I attempted to suggest alternative transport solutions, including collecting her and her team but she continued to give excuses.
This was after I had already purchased groceries based on the list she provided. Following her late cancellation, I was forced to urgently secure another caterer at the last minute, who also required a new grocery list — meaning I had to repurchase items from scratch.
Although I did receive a full refund, there was no apology for the inconvenience caused. The late cancellation resulted in wasted time, unnecessary expenses, and significant stress.
This serves as a warning to others to do thorough due diligence before booking service providers, especially for important events.
