I made cash payment of R20 000 in October 2020 for mosaic tiles which I was later advised were not in stock. I returned the following day to collect my money, however was told it had been banked with the previous day’s takings and no cash was kept on site. Was told a refund would be processed and credited to my account.
Followed up with the store assistant after the initial time frame indicated for refund had lapsed, she informed me the delay was due to variance in my bank and theirs and said I should give it a few more days. After another week, refund had still not be honored and I followed up only to be referred to the business owner.
Business owner demanded that I submit a tax clearance in order for the refund to be processed. Albeit this being irregular, I proceeded with submitting tax clearance certificate. I was told yet again it would take 7 days for the refund to be processed.
I have sent a series of follow up messages, none of which have been responded to, neither have I been credited back the R20 000. It is March 2021 and my phone calls go unanswered and messages are read with no acknowledgement.
I have escalated with the relevant authorities as it is improper business conduct withholding payment for goods/ services that have not been delivered. I’ve been sent from pillar to post and would discourage anyone from dealing with such unscrupulous businesses as such.
