Payment issues

I have lately heard that some of my ex colleagues has been paid by this company which I worked for it for 10years and got retrenched last year August but now what I don't understand why other people get paid and others did not. So can you please find out for me the reasons for those payments who and whose not entitled for it. Cause it is a soft pay of which no one understands what is soft pay.
