I had a lease agreement at Braamfontein gates, and unfortunately there was a fire in my unit while I lived there. I was advised by the building manager there are no vacant units to accommodate me and would have to leave.
I then organised for a truck and people to help move my belongings that were left, only to be told by security, on instruction by building manager Thabiso Mpopoti, that I was not allowed to take anything. Fast forward to two days later and I get a WhatsApp telling me if I don't get my stuff out in the next two days, they will be thrown out. I tried explaining that i wouldnt be able to make it that time, but Thabiso made it very clear that he is chucking out everything.
I then received a rental invoice for the month and approached the manager again to ask what it was for, as I had to vacate before the month ended, and was reassured by him that I did not owe any rent. (Whatsapp conversations available)
Fast forward to a year after I had left and never got my belongings, I get a letter of demand for R23000 IN rental arrears and according to the letter, UTF has been unable to get hold of me...even though they have my email and the building manager has my WhatsApp.
The last statement I have from UTF reflects a R0.00 and i shared this with their lawyers. I have now been requesting UTF for the statement of the R23k for almost 4 weeks now, their lawyer has also requested but nothing. I am going to be blacklisted yet my last statement from them reflected that i dont owe them.
