Extremely disappointed – breach of Consumer Protection Act and unacceptable conduct
I am writing this review to warn other consumers after an extremely stressful and disappointing experience with Vee Motors.
We purchased a used vehicle from this dealership in good faith. Shortly after purchase, an oil leak was identified. We were advised by the dealership that the issue had been repaired. Relying on this assurance, we attempted to proceed normally. However, an independent inspection later confirmed that the oil leak was still present, and that it was not minor, but related to the engine mounting.
Further independent reports (Cubby Motors / Dekra) confirmed that the defect is serious, expensive to repair, and carries a high risk of further mechanical damage. The vehicle was described as a financial and mechanical risk.
What is most troubling is what followed.
When we escalated the matter, the dealership: • Avoided calls and delayed engagement • Insisted repeatedly on further inspections rather than acknowledging responsibility • Refused to honour a refund, despite the defect appearing well within six months of purchase • Asserted incorrect interpretations of the Consumer Protection Act, claiming the dealership has the right to decide whether to repair or refund (this is not correct in law)
We were forced to independently verify service records with Ford, who confirmed that at the time of servicing, known mechanical faults (including cooling system-related issues) were identified and declined for repair. Despite this, the vehicle was sold without proper disclosure, and symptoms were later explained away as “normal air-conditioning condensation”, which proved to be misleading.
At this point, it became clear that this was not simply an “oil leak”, but a material latent defect combined with non-disclosure.
Instead of taking accountability, the dealership continued to argue, minimise the issue, and shift responsibility back onto the consumer. The emotional toll of this process — particularly on my elderly parent — has been significant and unnecessary.
The matter has now been formally escalated to the Motor Industry Ombudsman of South Africa (MIOSA).
This experience has been exhausting, distressing, and completely avoidable had Vee Motors acted transparently and comp**** with the Consumer Protection Act from the outset.
I would strongly caution anyone considering purchasing a vehicle from this dealership to: • Obtain independent inspections before purchase • Be extremely cautious about post-sale assurances • Be prepared to fight for basic consumer rights
This is not how a reputable dealership should operate.
