On the 25th January 2025, we viewed a 2024 demo VW T Cross at Master Cars, Bidvest Mcarthy, Westgate, assisted by Mike Shuenyane, the Sales Executive, who told us the price was R390,000 The vehicle had been damaged on the passenger front door, needed seats cleaned, a mat replaced and the smell of cigarette smoke removed before it could be sold. We indicated our interest but said we also wanted to look at other vehicles We went back twice more before going through on the 8th February to say that we wanted the vehicle, but asked if it could be repaired and valeted before we committed, which was readily agreed to by both Mike and Lloyd. 1.5 weeks later Mike phoned to say that the vehicle should be ready for us to look at again by 11am the next day, 13th February and we arranged to go through at 11h30. Upon our arrival at 11h40 the car was still being valeted so we waited. Mike bought the car round but said they still had to finish it, but everything would be ok, and we would receive an invoice with bank account details to which payment could be made, he just needed to chat with his Manager, Lloyd. At 12h15 Mike came to us and said he had made a mistake and given us the wrong price for the vehicle, instead of R390,000 it was in fact R420,000, R30,000 more. They would not consider selling the car to us at the price they had given us and were not prepared to negotiate and we had no choice but to leave. We find it unbelievable that 3.5 weeks later we are prepared to finalise the deal, but all of a sudden the price inreases by R30,000. Is this a fairly standard process, or we were just unlucky??? Moral of this story, get the price confirmed in writing up front. Feedback from the Dealer Principal at Bidvest Mcarthy, Westgate will be welcome
