Dear Sir, We here at
Wildman Hunting and Outdoor Centurion have read and considered your experience and review of our store. We understand that you have had an unfortunate experience in gun safety and range etiquette. We believe that our “Old Tall Man”, who was your range officer and instructor, in good faith assisted your session in the most professional and safe manner.
Wildman Hunting and Outdoor Centurion takes pride in the safe and responsible handle and use of firearms. It is very important to have the correct knowledge on the proper handle, use and control of a firearm, as enshrined in The
Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000. We, having considered the CCTV footage of the incident, believe that you have neglected to inform the viewers of your post as to the true course and manner of events of ‘your incident.’ In fact, your range officer was unfortunate enough to be the victim of no less than 3 (Three) separate life threatening safety infringements. This is confirmed by nothing other than CCTV footage of the incident. There is, in addition and maybe superfluously, also the firing of your firearm into the sidewall of the shooting range incident which we deem inexplainable … To this end, we provide that the proper and true detailed description of incident, aka the ‘CCTV Footage’, shall in future be referred to as the ‘How not to handle and use a firearm’ instructional video and same will be available for any customers to view at our Centurion Store. We are of the view that same will constitute a proper “How not to” instructional video and should serve to avoid further unfortunate experiences like the one you experienced. We believe that all shooting enthusiasts, users and potential owners of firearms, should be taught and reminded of proper and safe firearm handle, use, deployment and etiquette at all times. We furthermore bring to your attention and that of the public to
Chapter 16 - Offences, Penalties and Administrative Fines, Section 120 sub-section (1)(a) & (3)(b) &(c) The Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000. Which reads as follows:
(1)(a) – A person is guilty of an offence if he or she contravenes or fails to comply with any provision of this Act; (3)(b) – discharge or otherwise handle a firearm, …in a manner likely to injure or endanger the safety or property of any person or with reckless disregard for the safety or property of any person;(3)(c) – have control of a loaded firearm, … in circumstances where it creates a risk to the safety or property of any person and not to take reasonable precautions to avoid danger. We provide a link for you to refer to the aforementioned Act as follows:
https://www.gov.za/documents/firearms-control-act#:~:text=The%20Firearms%20Control%20Act%2060,provide%20for%20matters%20connected%20therewith. To this we are satisfied that our “Old Tall Man” acted accordingly and took reasonable precaution to avoid danger, further damages and more importantly injury and death.
Accordingly, we at Wildman Hunting and Outdoor Centurion believe that this now offers our clients a chance to engage with our Range Officers and that such engagement will properly guide our clients in future. Our new tutorial safety video on “How not to handle and use a firearm” has resulted in an offer of 25% off on our range fees and safety guide training courses, should you refer to our new safety video when making bookings.”
