Workmanship guarantee means nothing

It started off well, but 6 months down the line, we noticed that the paint was flaking off the tiles all over the roof.

We had our entire clay roof sc****d, sealed and waterproofed with Daves recommended rubber guard. He was reputable and had been in the industry long enough for us to trust his work. He said he only used the best products available and had experience waterproofing old clay tiles to the standard required by insurance companies. Dave gave us a 10 year guarantee on the work which we forwarded to our insurance company.

When we contacted him about the peeling paint, he gave us the runaround for months saying the paint wasn't guaranteed, just his work. Eventually after numerous phone calls, emails, pictures of the peeling paint, and references to his guarantee, he came to have a look. He agreed to repaint - and said he would do two coats.

He arrived in December and did one coat. We have been trying to lock him down since then to finish the second coat before winter, but he has given us the same runaround. He is never available, always too busy and we're left with shoddy work, R60k + down, and no real guarantee for the remaining 9 years..

Personally we liked him, but his after sales service and guarantees do not mean anything.
