There's a good side to my story as well, I took possession of a brand new Hyundai i10 in April 2012, I was told that I can buy back the vehicle after my 42 months contract for an estimated balloon payment of 20%. after that term I was given the option to refinance that amount through them as well. Close to the end of that contract, I applied for a second-hand vehicle through them and I was approved. The day when my wife and I went to their premises to sign I explained to Lucy Setuki that I don't want any balloon payments on the second vehicle, she said I don't have to worry as Ariva did away with the balloon payments as the contract was extended to 60 months and then the vehicle will be mine without any monies owed to Ariva and I will notice that my monthly installment is more than on the previous vehicle (much more). Now that my contract is coming to an end in June 2022 I received a letter from Ariva that I can buy the vehicle with a once-off payment of R67000.00
So at the end of the day, I did buy a brand new vehicle for R105000.00 with a monthly installment of R2961.00 over 42 months and a balloon payment of about R30000.00 and I received the papers and keys. the second vehicle was around R112000.00 if I'm not mistaken and it was second-hand, so I'm paying R4500.00 over 60 months and now 5 months before my final payment and after almost 5 years of payments, they want R67000.00 meaning I'm going to pay R338000.00 in total for the R112000.00 vehicle. When I questioned they asked for a letter to own the vehicle after payments, then as we went on in a mail war they said their contracts did change in 2019 and I must pay now to keep it when I said but that change got nothing to do with me as I took the vehicle in 2017 they didn't respond. So my next step will be to print all my mails for the past 5 years and seek legal assistance. Another thing is nowhere since April 2012 did they list me on any credit bureau as a good/bad payer for the 115 months payments received.
