We have had a bad experience with Banhoek Lodge in Stellenbosch. The following reasons have been noted: 1. Our booking made directly on their website (reflecting available rooms), deposit paid and payment confirmation received, was cancelled by the Lodge, with an email informing us of the cancellation due to a system error, and stating we will have our deposit returned. This happened almost three days after our booking was made. We had to contact the Lodge ourselves to get clarity, to which we were informed it was a Bookings.com system error. We informed them that we made our booking directly on the Lodge’s website, and not via Bookings.com. No evidence of the system error was provided. 2. In addition, a further three full business days after promising to refund our deposit, we have still not received our money. We followed—up again ourselves with the Lodge, who now claimed a third party service provider, Nightsbridge, was the delay, and there was not much further they could do. We had transacted directly with the Lodge, on their website and the Lodge should be responsible for our money being returned. We have no dealings with a third-party serbice provider who they use to facilitate their payments. We dealt directly with the Lodge. We will be seeking legal advice and pursuing this matter, unti our money is returned.

Avoid Banhoek Lodge at all costs. We received unprofessional and dishonest service from the so-called “Guest Liaison”, who didn’t seem to have a clue on how to handle guest relations. Our 5-night booking at Banhoek Lodge, which we made directly on their website, paid the deposit and received confirmation, was unfairly cancelled and we informed via a haphazard email, almost four days later. We had to follow-up ourselves in regards to the reason, to which we were informed of a system error on Bookings.com, however we had made our booking directly with them. It also took them four days to come up with the excuse of a system error, when it was obvious it wasn’t. They refused to provide evidence of the system error, and their incompetent “Guest Liaison” couldn’t even articulate what actually went wrong. It was clear that we were “bumped” for someone else that may have had a longer reservation, which says a lot about the ethics of Management. They have total disregard for paying guests. At the end of the day, we happy that it worked the way it did and our reservation cancelled. It saved us from staying at a horrible establishment, which would have ruined our holiday in any event. We subsequently got accommodation at a much better establishment, who had proper Management and guest relations etiquette. The Banhoek Valley area has many other fine establishments you can choose from (Banhoek Lodge not being one of them!).
